Hi Seth, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Michaels Entertainment began with a mic, a passion for people, and a whole lot of hustle. In the early days, we weren’t packing out ballrooms or lighting up the dance floor—we were hosting weekly trivia nights at local bars, creating laughter and community one question at a time. That love for entertaining grew into spinning tracks at bar nights and club events, where energy, timing, and reading the room became second nature.

Then came the cruise ship chapter—an incredible opportunity to entertain travelers from all over the world, night after night. It wasn’t just about music—it was about connection, celebration, and creating the soundtrack to unforgettable moments. That experience opened new creative doors and deepened our dedication to delivering world-class entertainment, no matter the setting.

But the turning point came when I had the honor of apprenticing under one of the greatest wedding DJs I’ve ever met—a true master of the craft. His attention to detail, emotional intelligence, and effortless ability to move a crowd shaped everything I believed a wedding DJ should be. We’re still friends to this day, and I credit much of my early foundation to his mentorship.

Back home, I teamed up with my best friend—now our Vice President—and together, we built something bigger. We carefully assembled a team of like-minded, talented professionals who share our mission: to elevate the industry by providing not just music, but meaningful experiences.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road — and honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Like many in the events industry, COVID was our crucible moment. Practically overnight, weddings were canceled, dance floors emptied, and the momentum we’d built seemed to evaporate. It felt like the whole industry hit pause, and for a moment, it was hard to see what came next.

But what looked like the end became a rebirth. From the ashes of that experience, we rose up stronger, more focused, and more committed than ever to excellence. We used that forced downtime to reimagine everything — our systems, our service model, our communication, and our creative offerings. We didn’t just rebuild. We refined.

And even before (and after) the pandemic, growth came with its own learning curves. As our team expanded, it became clear that talent alone wasn’t enough—we needed structure. Building out reliable systems, developing policies and repeatable procedures, and learning how to lead a growing team became crucial.

There were plenty of behind-the-scenes struggles: figuring out how to manage complex event schedules without overlap, creating seamless client experiences from the first inquiry to the final song, and making sure every team member had the tools, training, and support they needed to deliver excellence.

Selling a job is one thing—but delivering on that promise, consistently and at scale, is something else entirely. It took time, tough lessons, and a lot of determination to get where we are now.

But we’ve faced every bottleneck head-on—learning how to hire, how to train, how to lead, and how to stay organized while still leaving room for creativity and spontaneity.

And the best part? We didn’t just survive the hard times—we grew closer, got smarter, and turned every challenge into a stepping stone.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I think of luck a little differently than most. To me, luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity—and when difficulty meets relentless dedication. Sure, there may be some mystical or metaphysical forces at play in the universe, but what’s made the biggest difference in my journey has been sheer willpower, discipline, and a deep care for the people we serve.

In this business, you can’t wait around for luck to show up. You have to create momentum. You have to stay ready—mentally, emotionally, and operationally—so that when the right opportunities come your way, you’re already in motion. And when challenges hit, which they always do, it’s the discipline and commitment to figure things out intelligently and creatively that separates success from setback.

There’s no shortcut around caring. I care deeply about our clients, our team, our reputation, and the experience we deliver. That level of care drives the consistency, the quality, and the growth.
