Exploring Life & Business with Cassidy Coleman and Lily Noordyk of Savvy Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassidy Coleman and Lily Noordyk.

Hi Cassidy and Lily, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We are best friends, turned business partners, with a shared passion for creating beautiful spaces. We met in college during our time pursuing our Architectural Interior Design degrees, and have been inseparable ever since. After college, we both pursued different career paths in the Interior Design field and still felt like we were missing the mark on our purpose. So, we decided to ditch the nine to five lives for something that brought greater meaning to our future. A business where we can serve our clients more freely, as well as create that freedom in our own lives. With that said, Savvy was born. Four months into the business, we decided to focus on our ideal client which was designed for short-term rental owners. Niching into short-term rental design was when we saw a huge shift in our passion and direction for Savvy.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has not been easy for us, but no entrepreneurial journey is. We’ve overcome the challenges that we’ve faced by staying connected to our support systems, not giving up, and relying on google as needed (a lifesaver). There have been a million lessons we’ve learned along the way, but the biggest is that hard work outweighs talent. While we are both talented, if we would have waited until we had every aspect of our business figured out to start, we would not be where we are. Hard work and consistency have been key components for us as well as refusing to compare ourselves to others on similar journeys. Marketing in today’s world has been another challenge as it’s highly competitive and demanding. Showcasing our value, knowledge, and experience online to stand out has proven to be much more difficult than we anticipated.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We want to help short-term rental hosts make the most out of their investment. Our focus is to design spaces that create meaning, are functional in every way, will hold memories, and reflect the lives we all wish to live. We specialize in renovating, designing, and staging turn-key short-term rentals. Our value, our knowledge, and our experience in the interior design industry is the biggest thing that sets us apart from our competition. We both have Bachelor’s degrees in Interior Design and 8 years of combined experience in renovations, custom homes, kitchen and baths, project managing, and commercial design. We are thorough communicators and incredibly detail-oriented people; we know from experience that these skills attribute to the success and smoothness of any project. We offer three main service options for our clients: Creating the Vibe, Airbnb in a Box, and Ultimate Makeover. These packages offer a range of services from idea starters all the way to full-scope setup and mural painting. The biggest thing we want people to know about our story is that you don’t have to have it all figured out to take the risk and be in charge of your future. Our brand parallels that idea for our clients to create their own freedoms too.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
We are from the greater Grand Rapids, Michigan area and there are plenty of fun things to do and see! We love the local eats, small downtown shops, hiking areas, the cleanliness, and the beautiful lakeshore along Lake Michigan. We don’t have many complaints about where we live other than the chilly, long winters!
