Exploring Life & Business with Samantha White of Wildflower Massage and MLD

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha White.

Hi Samantha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey with Massage started back in 2018. A little before that I had been very sick in the hospital for a few weeks and nobody could figure out what was going on with me, but I will never forget the care I got from the nurses. I thought it was pretty amazing how much heart they had and how much they cared and took care of me during that time. After that, I wanted to pay it forward and help others too, however, the hours that a nurse generally keeps wasn’t something that was ideal for my family with having two small children. My sister has been a massage therapist for many years and I decided to look into that route a little more. I found a small school in Standale Michigan that did not advertise and I found it by chance. It was a school that basically said people who are meant to be here find us, and I knew I was going down the right path. I spent a year getting licensed for Massage and about four months later I decided I wanted to go get trained in Thailand for Traditional Thai massage. That was an incredible experience that I will never forget and someday hope to go back and get more authentic training. I ended up getting back right before Covid shut down the US and was very grateful that I got all of my training done before that had happened. After Covid, I met another therapist (Corey Cosgrove), and he was about to open his own Massage clinic and rent out rooms for other therapists to work out of. I felt like this was a fresh start to get my own business up and running. I spent five years there and thanks to Corey I decided to do a lot of training in the John F Barnes Myofascial Release seminar’s. I’ve always loved to travel so through these seminars and other classes I take, I get to combine my two loves of travel and learning. I believe all this has made me the unique therapist I am today. So after five years of being at The Healing Toadstool, learning how to run a business and continually expanding my knowledge on ways to improve my massage treatments, I decided in January of this year that I was ready to create my own space. The first place I looked at I fell in love with, and once again knew I was on the right path. I spent all of March creating a space I could be proud of and that my clients would feel at home and peaceful in. April first of this year I opened up my office and have felt nothing but love and kindness from the community. It has been quite the journey and I’m so happy to be where I am now. I’m still slowly decorating and getting the space finalized but have had a great turnout so far and I’m keeping very busy. I also last February decided to start online schooling at Nutrition Therapy Institute. So in February 2027, I will have my holistic nutrition degree and will be also offering that service at my office. My nutrition journey started also around the same time I got sick and found out I have Hashimoto’s but have since developed other autoimmunes as well and it’s very difficult to find the right foods that agree with my body. So with learning holistic nutrition, I wanted to help heal my body, but also decided that there’s so many people out there that need the same help and the same information. So why not offer counseling to others once I’m finished? I believe that everything that has happened in my life and everyone I have met have led me to this point and I am so blessed to be where I am today.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing is easy and everything has its own set of challenges. Starting this journey when I had two young children and a husband that traveled most of the year while doing schooling, and then opening my own business, was a giant challenge in its own. My health has been another challenge I’ve dealt with on and off through the years. Lately it has been more challenging to keep it in a good place, but I continuously do more research, more healing with food and stay active to keep me at my best.

We’ve been impressed with Wildflower Massage and MLD, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I own a massage therapy business, that will also include holistic nutrition counseling next year. I have done hundreds of hours in very specific training. Most of it I have had to travel to get to. Manual lymph drain and JFB Myofascial Release services have been what a lot of of my clients come to me for. I have also taken an interest on working on people’s hips and have done training with that as well. I also try to be as all natural, eco friendly and support local businesses as much as possible at my office. I truly care about helping people heal and showing them that getting their life back from pain can be possible. And if I’m not the person to help them, I have an amazing network of others that can. Sometimes just taking the time to sit and listen to someone’s story is all they need to begin their healing journey.

What makes you happy?
Seeing someone come out of that treatment room smiling and being on cloud 9, makes me the happiest. I love knowing I’ve helped someone on their own healing journey, people really do transform into their better selves when they feel good.
