Exploring Life & Business with Rachel Munson of Form Fitness Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Munson.

Hi Rachel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Started right out of college at a desk job and found myself helping others in the office with their health and fitness and realized I was in the wrong place.

Pursued my PT certification as a ‘side gig’ and began working at a Strength and Conditioning gym near GR. My mentor started in his garage and built a fantastic gym – where I learned so much!

I was still working part-time at an office and had an epiphany while driving home one day – I could open a gym in my garage. Why not?

It’s been about 5 years, and it’s now evolved into a gym for moms. After having my son in 2020, I realized how much there was to know about pregnancy and postpartum exercise that a training certification just does not dive into.

I ended up injuring myself and made it my mission to spread as much awareness and knowledge for those moms out there to avoid the same thing happening to them. I went full-time into my training career and am now working towards opening up a gym space that will help as many women in the area as possible and will educate trainers in this area of fitness.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Oh there have been plenty! The BIGGEST struggle for me has been finding a balance between new motherhood and my passion for coaching and drive to open up a successful gym. There have been countless conversations between my husband and I, but luckily, he is one of my biggest supporters. It would not be even close to where it is today without his support and belief that I could even do it.

Running a business from my home was not as easy as I imagined it would be. There are bound to be clients seeing the snapshot photo of my personal life. Baby screaming in the house, dog barking, a messy bathroom to use, but it can also be a beautiful thing that makes what I’m doing so personal.

I could never have guessed the amount of sacrifices it would take not only with my family but friends. I’m up at 4 am to coach and in bed early. My weekends can sometimes revolve around the business – which doesn’t leave a lot of time! It’s all about finding balance and setting boundaries.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Form Fitness Studio is a gym created to help women feel strong and capable for life. It’s a neighborhood gym with friendly faces where clients are all striving for similar goals of long-term health and vitality.

Form Fitness Studio is NOT just a place to work out. It is a place that helps each person individually feel better in all other aspects of their life.

I think the best way to describe it is to share a story (I changed her name for this example):

Gina came to Form Fitness over 2 years ago at wits end. Feeling sluggish, tired, going through menopause, and noticing an increase in weight. Their personal life consisted of caregiving for ill parents and a son with disabilities. There never seemed to be enough time for Gina, but she knew there needed to be a change. She has lost over 15 lbs and describes her feeling as “I never knew how much strength training could make me not only stronger physically, but mentally. I need this as my weekly therapy; it has helped build confidence in so many ways and made me feel more capable of whatever life throws at me.”

Form Fitness helps women feel strong and capable with functional strength training that fits their needs.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most is my family, specifically being a wife and mom. I want my son to see one day that if you have a dream, not to let anything stop you. It’s about pursuing what you feel is right in your soul and going to that with 110% effort – that’s where true happiness is found.
