Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachael Brinkman.
Hi Rachael, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Rachael Brinkman is Einstein Dog Training’s owner/trainer with many years of experience training dogs for many different training disciplines. Rachael has trained her dogs for various competitive sports including obedience, rally, flyball, frisbee, and dock diving. She has been training for over 40 years, stemming from parents that were active in dog training and competition.
Rachael has several dogs that actively compete dog sports; she enjoys training for sport, as well as for basic and advanced obedience. But her favorite training is advanced levels of behavior modification, working with dogs that other trainers have lost hope on.
Before becoming a full time trainer, she was a Veterinary Emergency Technician for 10 years and worked in the Emergency and Critical Care department at a large Referral and Emergency Clinic in Bloomfield Hills, MI and Las Vegas, NV. Rachael moved to Las Vegas in early 2009, and in 2010, she started her first dog training business. In 2011, she expanded with a 2nd dog training location in Vegas, and in early 2012, expanded into Orange County, CA with her 3rd location. After the birth of her first daughter in late 2012, Rachael amd her husband decided to sell the locations and move back to Michigan to be closer to family. Soon after was the start of Einstein Dog Training!
Rachael also did one month of animal search and rescue in New Orleans, LA after Hurricane Katrina. She has volunteered her time on multiple occasions for dog rescue, including helping host events, adoptions, spay/neuter clinics, etc. She has also donated services for rescue groups such as French Bulldog Village, Last Chance Rescue, Safari Animal Rescue and Incred-A-Bull. Rachael also competes at World Championship levels in several different sports with her dogs. Her dogs have set over 20 world records, one which landed them into Guiness World Records in 2019!
In addition to behavior modification, Rachael also owns a dock diving facility in Gaines, MI called Einstein Dock Diving, where she brings her love of the sport to the community. Holding large events that have been coveted by HBO, USA Today, Animal Planet, many local media outlets.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course it hasn’t all been a smooth ride! Business challenges with staffing, the pandemic, and moving locations has all presented its own bumps in the road!
We’ve been impressed with Einstein Dog Training , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Einstein Dog Training in Fenton, MI is a professional dog training facility dedicated to helping dogs and their owners build better relationships through effective, real world training. We work with dogs of all ages, breeds, and behavior challenges. From energetic new puppies, to dogs struggling with advanced behavior problems.
Our training programs are customized to each dog and family, focusing not only on teaching dogs new skills, but also on educating owners so they can confidently maintain long term success at home.
Our services include puppy training and socialization, basic training for nuisance behaviors such as leash pulling, jumping and chewing, and also behavior modification for issues such as reactivity, fear and dog or human aggression.
Since 2014, we’ve been voted one of Metro Detroit’s Best Dog Trainers and were inducted into the City of Fenton Hall of Fame after earning the community’s “Best Dog Trainer” recognition for ten consecutive years. We have been awarded with various “best of” over the years.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Best advice for anyone starting out is get out there with your own dog. Dog sports and behavior training goes hand in hand. Behavior training is not just about suppressing unwanted behaviors, you first need to set boundaries and expectations, then fulfill the dog’s life. Management without outlets will fail. Dogs are not meant to just live in someone’s house and take walks their entire life. They need fulfillment too, and dog sports is a great avenue for all things dogs enjoy!
