Exploring Life & Business with Peter Coratti of Coratti’s Pizzeria

Today we’d like to introduce you to Peter Coratti.

Hi Peter, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have been in the pizza business since the early 1990s. I opened my first sit-down Italian restaurant with my sister in 2008 and my first pizzeria + bar + bocce restaurant, Coratti’s Pizzeria, in Howell MI in 2021 along with my nephews. We opened our second Coratti’s Pizzeria location in Ann Arbor in the summer of 2025.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The restaurants have all been incredibly well-received by the communities! The hiccups along the way have been due to covid delays when opening our first Coratti’s Pizzeria location in Howell and then more construction delays when opening the Ann Arbor location in the original Cottage Inn building. The building underwent significant construction with the addition of the bocce courts on the second floor and our Italian market, Pietro’s, next door.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Coratti’s Pizzeria?
My nephew Peter Pfeffer and I traveled to Naples, Italy to learn how to make authentic Napoletana wood-fired pizza at the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana. We received our AVPN certification in 2019. Our ingredients, method of preparation, and final product at Coratti’s Pizzeria pass the Napoletana authenticity test. We consider everything from refinement of the flour, the clarity of the water, and the grade of salt used in our pizza dough. We take pride in the techniques we use to prepare our pizza, the temperature of our wood-burning oven, and the length of time spent cooking.

We serve three kinds of pizza at Coratti’s Pizzeria: Napoletana, Detroit Style and American, along with a full menu of Italian favorites, including house-made pasta.

Coratti’s Pizzeria + Bar + Bocce also has a full bar and two full sized indoor bocce courts for year-round play. Our Ann Arbor location has a student bocce league with competitive tournaments for U of M students.

What’s next?
We are planning to open our third Coratti’s Pizzeria location in downtown East Lansing in the summer of 2026. The building is in the middle of massive renovations in preparation for the bocce courts and Italian wood-fire ovens.
