Today we’d like to introduce you to Naudia Jackson.
Naudia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m from Detroit, Michigan and I am the CEO of Lashedbynj. Growing up I always loved strip lashes and started wearing them when I was 16 years old. As the pandemic got worse and we were put on lockdown, I decided to take a lash Extension Class in June of 2020. It was NOT easy at all and I struggled tremendously with the basics of lash extensions but I had everything I needed to get started. As I started practicing every day and getting my technique down pack, I started taking clients and people trusted me! By this time, I started having 2 clients a day in my parents’ basement. I still was not as good as I would have liked to be. I practiced fans every day and everything I needed to because I knew I could get somewhere. By Oct 2021, I moved into my first suite, started building my brand, and selling lash shampoo, lash Tee shirts, and custom lash extension strips. I offer a variety of lash sets, now that I have trained myself to do so. From lash fans to lash decals, I have taught myself and I’m proud of that.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Lashing has not been a smooth road at all. Some people think that they can jump into lashing just to make money but it is really a skill that you have to perfect. I have put blood, sweat, and tears into my brand and will continue to do so. I have had more bad days than good. There have been more days that I am crying rather than smiling. More days through the week that I was in the hospital rather than in my suite. In between College courses and keeping up with my personal life, building my brand was harder. I struggled with shyness, content, and even speaking to clients, but with the help of my close friends, I have learned to navigate my way through being a Great Lash Tech.
As you know, we’re big fans of Lashedbynj . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I originally started my lash business with the name “eyecandyco”. This was solely based off of selling 25MM strips only. It was going very well but I wanted MORE! As I started my lash extension journey, I noticed most of my clients loved my “mixed set” and I think this is what sets me apart from others. My mixed sets are very versatile and are different for every client. Another thing that sets me apart from others is that I only took 1 lash class and that was for classic lash extensions. I taught myself how to make volume fans, place lash decals, brow threading, lash shampoo, and create lash Extension strips. I AM my own motivation and that is what I’m most proud of!
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Over the next 5-10 years I imagine myself having my own building to rent to other lash techs to get their journey started and give them a new home. I know I will grow and become more financially stable than I have ever been because of the hard work I’ve put in the last 2 years. It’s all about the foundation of where you start that gets you to where you’re going. “If you have a strong foundation, the plan will never be weak!”-lashedbynj
