Exploring Life & Business with Natalie Bycraft of Multipassionite

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Bycraft.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As a kid, I drew and painted constantly and I loved writing stories. So naturally, in adulthood, when I first started considering doing freelance work, I gravitated toward things I knew I could do and that I’d enjoy; making art and helping fellow writers along their publishing journeys. Around 2018, I took on my first freelance client, creating a couple t-shirt designs they could print on their merch. Over time, I picked up another couple clients, honing my graphic design skills along the way, as well as my first author client, a woman who’s manuscript I edited. When I wanted to take my work more seriously, I started my company, which is how Multipassionite was born!

I’ve always been someone with many different interests, and so the name Multipassionite lovingly came from the term “multi-passionate,” and I made it my own by switching the suffix. Now, I use it as a noun as well, and call our clients and social media followers Multipassionites! This entire company is built around the idea that it’s okay (and preferred!) to have varied interests and to pursue multiple paths in life.

Now, I serve our clients under the Multipassionite name by editing books for writers and creating eye-catching logos and apparel designs for businesses.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The vast majority of Multipassionite’s clients have been a dream to work with, and for that we are incredibly grateful. We’ve had multiple repeat clients as well who come back each next time they need more designs or have another book written.

But no road is completely smooth (especially in Michigan). One thing that has been a struggle for us is finding more clients and getting the word out about us. We have the capacity and the bandwidth to help so many more people!

Designing logos and apparel designs for companies is so important and I’m personally thrilled to be the one someone comes to for the graphic that people will associate with their brand, that they’ll print on their business cards, that they’ll put on their building’s signage. I get immense joy from seeing my designs on t-shirts and tote bags and stickers, knowing that my client is happy with their vision come to life. And as an author myself, helping a fellow author along their journey of publishing is an honor I don’t take lightly. I take a lot of pride in my work and I’m so looking forward to helping more people turn their dreams into realities in the future.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Multipassionite?
The professional answer of what we do is that we provide book editing services to writers. So, if you’re an author on your way to publishing, we offer developmental or line editing for your manuscript. And we also create strong, noticeable logos for businesses, designs for companies to print on their apparel, and illustrations for a variety of purposes and occasions (like book covers or save-the-dates, for instance).

What I hope we also do here at Multipassionite is inspire people to embrace their multifaceted nature, to experiment, explore, and experience all the interesting things life has to offer, and to resist the advice of others to niche down to one subject. We want to attract people who love to learn and share knowledge, people with vast bookshelves, and people who gather inspiration wherever they find it!

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Along my journey, I’ve worked with companies across a variety of industries. I’ve designed for a women’s motorcycle gear company, a dance studio, a marketing agency, a wellness brand, an auto shop, a yoga studio, and so on. Across these industries, my clients are looking for different things, wanting designs that mesh well with their brand identities. For each client, I’ve needed to put myself in the position of someone in that industry and create something that works for them while also putting Multipassionite flair into it. Designing something that makes sense to their customers as well as making sure it stands out within their industry. On the design side of our work, this has been an interesting lesson.
