Today we’d like to introduce you to Mimi Brown
Hi Mimi, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
“I can remember it like it was yesterday. At 19, I was running a camera at my college TV station when I heard Dr. Joe Martin speak. His talk was so captivating that I literally dropped the camera! After getting a stern talking-to and eventually being let go, I approached him and expressed my admiration. When I asked for his autograph, he said, ‘No, I want yours because you’ll be doing this one day.’ That moment planted a seed in me. From that moment, I knew that I wanted to be a motivational keynote speaker. I wanted to use my words to change the world. He advised me to gain life experience, which I did through college and the workforce. I honed my skills in leadership development and sales coaching, and now I help people become more influential and confident in their sales and leadership roles.”
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
“It hasn’t been a smooth road—it rarely is for anyone building a business. One of the biggest challenges as a motivational keynote speaker isn’t just delivering the speech but landing the speech, which means mastering the business side of things. Early on, I had to do a lot of things I didn’t enjoy to create the opportunities I was passionate about. At the same time, life was happening. I’ve been married and divorced, experienced significant losses, and juggled the demands of building my business while working a full-time job to stay afloat.
Through it all, I’ve kept my eye on my ‘why.’ That’s what has kept me grounded—remembering why I started this journey in the first place. I’ve also been blessed with a phenomenal support system. My mastermind group, made up of two amazing speakers, has been a lifeline for the past eight years. We meet regularly to recalibrate, celebrate wins, navigate challenges, and strategize how to be the best versions of ourselves. With insights from resilience expert Kim Becking and practical tips from Shawa Suckow on identifying priorities, I’ve found the tools and encouragement to push through tough times and show up stronger for myself and others. It hasn’t been easy, but those challenges have shaped me and built the character I need to succeed.”

Picture this: if Wanda Sykes and Oprah had a baby who grew up to teach people how to own the room, command attention, and make their mark—that’s me, Mimi Brown. I’m a keynote speaker, author, and coach specializing in helping ambitious women and leaders step into their confidence, amplify their influence, and lead with authenticity. Whether I’m on stage or in a training room, I bring the laughs, the truth bombs, and the tools you need to transform your life and leadership.
What sets me apart? I don’t just talk at people—I connect. I use my signature mix of humor and heart to make learning fun, engaging, and real. I’ve worked with powerhouses like McDonald’s, Pepsi, and Consumers Energy, so I know a thing or two about navigating big personalities and big goals. My clients call me the ‘SWAG Whisperer’ because I teach them how to own their stuff—strengths, wins, authenticity, and grit—and show up unapologetically in any room.
I’m most proud of helping people see themselves in a new light. Whether it’s a high-achieving woman finally realizing her voice matters or a leader learning how to communicate with impact, I’m all about creating those lightbulb moments. From workshops to keynote speeches, I tailor my brand offerings to inspire action and deliver results. At the end of the day, I help people show up, shine bright, and leave a legacy. Because life’s too short to play small—let’s get to work!””Beyond keynotes, I roll up my sleeves and dive into workshops, coaching, and programs tailored to help leaders and teams thrive. I’ve designed leadership development programs for women, sales training that actually sticks, and communication workshops that turn ‘meh’ meetings into power-packed connections. Whether it’s teaching emerging leaders how to own the room, helping teams de-escalate tough conversations, or coaching individuals to master the art of influence, I meet people where they are and help them level up. Think of it as equal parts strategy, swagger, and heart—served with a side of laughter, of course!”
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
When most little girls were playing with Easy-Bake Ovens or Barbie dolls, I was hosting The Mimi Brown Show. If you walked into our cozy 950-square-foot house, congratulations—you were now a guest on my show. My hairbrush was my microphone, my teddy bears were my studio audience, and every visitor became my next big interview. I’ve always been outgoing, vivacious, and optimistic, and I owe so much of that to my parents. They let me show up as my authentic, slightly over-the-top self, which shaped the person I am today.
Growing up, I was a busybody—in the best way. I danced, joined Girl Scouts, and even played basketball in high school. Okay, played is a strong word—I rode the right bench like a pro. But I loved the energy of competition and the showmanship of it all. Looking back, it’s no surprise that I ended up on stages for a living. Whether I was entertaining my teddy bears or engaging a real audience, I’ve always loved connecting with people, sharing stories, and bringing a little extra spark into the room.
