Exploring Life & Business with Michael and Jennifer Miller of March81 Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael and Jennifer Miller.

Hi Michael and Jennifer, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We’re a husband/wife team, for both of us, photography and arts have always been a big part of who we are. For myself (Michael), I am a second generation wedding photographer and remember always tinkering around with cameras as I grew up. I even had one of the first digital cameras. It’s really amazing where photography has come! I also studied film and photography in high school and college and was a trained member at the public television station in my early years. Jennifer has always loved the arts and studied photography and fine art in college as well. Many of our early adventures together as a couple and continued adventures have been spent exploring some corner of the world with a camera at our eye. Photography for both of us is about stopping and seeing the beauty in the lights and shadows of the world around us. It’s been a natural progression for both of us to explore this passion and turn it into a business. Why not spend life doing something we love?

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Learning to turn a passion into a profession is not always an easy task. As a creative, it’s always difficult to put give a dollar amount to your passion or to channel the business mindset. We’ve spent many years mentoring and learning from other successful photographers in the industry and building a great community of fellow photographers around the country that help support us. When we find customers that connect with our vision, it’s where our passion really comes alive and magic happens. 2020 was going to be our big year of pushing from part-time to full time photography. But we all know how that has worked out. With COVID lingering around and weddings being a primary focus of what we do, it really took the wind out of our sails. We’re optimistic about 2022 and are planning great things and continue to grow.

We’ve been impressed with March81 Photography, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We’re a full service studio. For us photography is so much more than just capturing the images. It’s about helping our clients have a comfortable and fun experience in front of our camera and helping them be able to enjoy the images they love in their home. We have seen first hand how many times people get images taken and only get the digitals, share them on social and that is all they ever do with them. We strive to not let that happen, we want our clients to have heirlooms of their big moments in life from weddings to family portraits. We help them create custom pieces that match their personality and style of their homes. We think this is such an important thing that we include an heirloom wedding album in all of our wedding packages.
