Exploring Life & Business with Mallory Ramirez of Malloy Joy Wedding and Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mallory Ramirez.

Mallory Ramirez

Hi Mallory, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my business after I was laid off this past spring. I have always had an interest in wedding planning and took a wedding planning class in college back in 2010. After planning my own wedding this past March I took up a special interest in helping others plan their special day.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As starting any new business, there has definitely been some obstacles. I think finding the best place to advertise your business and be cost-effective as a new business has been one of the biggest struggles I have had. I also recently learned how to use TikTok and that has been a joy in itself. For not being a tech savvy person, I created my own website, which I am very, very proud of. I also have an Instagram account as well as a Zola page. With having so many choices for wedding planners in this industry, you’ll get a lot of possible clients reaching out that don’t turn into bookings. Trying to market yourself on social media is the easiest and most cost-effective way to get your name out there.

We’ve been impressed with Malloy Joy Wedding and Events, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Mallory Joy Wedding and Events is the first woman owned LGBTQIA+ wedding planning business in West Michigan, not only that I am also proud to be Mexican American. I specialize in LGBTQIA+ weddings, making sure they feel comfortable searching for vendors without having to ask that question if the vendor is LGBTQIA+ friendly. That was one question I was always afraid to ask when I was planning my own wedding, this is already a stressful time and to be denied a service because of who you are in love with is sometimes unbearable. Not only do I cater to the LGBTQIA+ community, I cater to every background, gender and race. I pride myself on being inclusive and customizing your vision. My wife and I also make custom wedding arches and centerpieces we have a passion for woodworking and love to see a vision come to life.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
A quality that I think is most important to my success is transparency. When creating an event you have to be transparent with the client based off of what they can afford and what they want their day to look like. I am a bargain hunter through and through as well as a DIY queen, given the opportunity, I can help you create your dream day on any budget.
