Today we’d like to introduce you to Macey Scott.
Hi Macey, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Growing up in rural St. Charles, Michigan taught me that consistency, integrity, and hard work aren’t optional. They’re the baseline. Around here we say it simply: results matter.
I played softball in high school, and that’s where teamwork stopped being a word on a poster and became something real. My teammates covered the places I was weak. Knowing I was fighting for their success and not just my own pulled things out of me I didn’t know were there.
Real estate wasn’t the plan. Looking back, though, it’s funny how many times it circled me. I talked about becoming an agent with my dad and with a childhood friend, but in the middle of everything a young person imagines for herself, it felt like just another maybe.
What I did know is that I wanted to help people. I come from a family of nurses, so that was in the water. Out of high school I worked at a dog kennel. I love animals and caring for them was rewarding, but I knew I wanted something bigger.
Then a position opened at a local title company. I processed transactions and kept files on track, and honestly, I was lost at first. So many steps, so much technical language. What I did understand was this: every piece of that paperwork existed to protect somebody through one of the largest financial decisions of their life.
That’s also where I met my husband, Travis Scott. He was a Realtor®, and one day in conversation he put the idea back in front of me. He pointed out what should have been obvious. I already loved real estate, I already loved helping people, and I had it in me to go to bat for someone at a moment that actually mattered. He gave me the confidence to try.
I got my license shortly after. My first clients were a couple who moved to Ithaca. At closing they told me how excited they were, and that they knew their future child would love the house too. That was the moment it landed for me. This work changes the shape of people’s lives.
Buying or selling a home is a huge financial decision, but for most people it’s more than money. It’s the place they call home. Closer to work, closer to friends, closer to family. It’s where their kids take their first steps, and where those kids come home one day with a family of their own.
Today I’m a Realtor®, an Associate Broker, and a team leader at The Scott Home Team, and I’ve grown into all three with pride and a lot of resilience. Accountability isn’t situational. You show up, you do the work, and you stand behind the outcome. I’m going to keep growing, keep learning, and keep serving my clients and my community at the level they deserve.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In Michigan we have a saying about our roads: it’s either construction or winter. My career has been pretty similar. I’m a firm believer in continuous improvement, and that belief gets a lot sharper when your decisions affect other people’s lives.
There is an enormous amount to know in this business. Loans, inspections, title, architecture, contracts. No new agent knows all of it, and there’s a rule of thumb in our industry that you don’t start to feel normal until somewhere around your first 12 to 20 transactions. My first dozen involved a lot of swallowed pride and a lot of asking for help.
Early on, Travis and I were part of a team that functioned more like a collective. Every agent was ultimately their own player. Everyone had to put food on their own table before they could put much energy into helping anyone else. That isn’t a knock on anybody. It’s what happens when the structure rewards individual production and nothing else, and it taught us exactly what we didn’t want to build.
When The Scott Home Team came together a couple of years ago, we built it around that lesson. We wanted people who actually covered for each other, the way my softball teammates covered for me.
That didn’t make it easy. Growth exposes everything you haven’t built yet. What worked when it was a handful of us started cracking as we took on more, and about six months ago we tore our systems down to the studs and rebuilt them. Every process, every handoff, every point where a client could fall through a gap. It was tedious and it was humbling, because a lot of it existed only in our heads and we had been calling that a system. It was also the right call, and our clients feel the difference even if they never see it.
What we have now is worth what it took. Our team feels like a second family, and beyond the agents we’ve brought on, we’ve been able to create real careers for two people who would never have found their way into this industry otherwise. So no, it hasn’t been a smooth road. But I don’t think smooth builds anything worth keeping.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The Scott Home Team is a full service real estate team with eXp Realty, serving clients across mid and southeast Michigan. Travis and I lead it together, along with our agents and our support staff, and the whole thing is built on a simple idea: a client should never be able to tell which one of us is handling their file, because the standard is the same no matter whose name is on it.
Most of what we do is helping buyers and sellers find or sell a home, at every price point, and that’s the heart of the business. Alongside that, we handle work that keeps us sharp. Travis and I both analyze investment deals the way an investor does, running real numbers rather than guessing, and we’re comfortable with financing structures a lot of residential agents never touch. We also do valuation work for lenders and relocation companies. None of that is the main event, but all of it makes us better at pricing, and our everyday clients are the ones who benefit..
What sets us apart is that we’re actually a team. That word gets used loosely in this industry to describe a group of agents sharing a logo. For us it means shared systems, shared accountability, and coverage. If one of us is in a closing, someone else is answering your call. Nobody on my team is out there alone hoping it works out, and that shows up in the client experience whether they realize it or not.
I’m proud of the brand we’ve built, but what I’m most proud of is who we’ve built it with. My younger brother Gavin is one of our agents. Our office manager and our client care coordinator both came to us from outside the industry, and we’ve been able to turn that into real careers for them. Watching people grow into something they didn’t know they were capable of is honestly the best part of leading a team, and I don’t think you get that from a group of individual producers under one banner.
We also try to be a real part of the communities we sell in. Our Restaurant of the Month feature is a small thing, but it puts a local business in front of a few thousand people every month, and it comes from the same place everything else does. We live here. These are our neighbors.
What I’d want your readers to know is this: we are not the team that disappears after the offer is accepted, and we’re not going to “tell you what you want to hear” about your home’s value. You’ll get straight answers, you’ll get a plan, and you’ll get people who follow through. Around here, results matter.
What were you like growing up?
Honestly? A goody two shoes, and simple in the best sense of the word. I followed the rules, did the work the way it was supposed to be done, and felt genuinely bad if I let anyone down. I liked books and I liked animals, and I could lose a whole afternoon to either one. I wasn’t chasing anything flashy. I liked knowing what was expected of me and then doing it well, which is probably why the detail side of this job has never worn on me the way it does on some people.
