Exploring Life & Business with Lucy Ardanowski of Lawns by Lucy LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucy Ardanowski.

Hi Lucy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In May of 2020, I started working with Tim (my now-boyfriend and father of our two children), mowing lawns and as a secretary at his small engine repair shop. I mowed until I found out I was pregnant with our first son, Maverick. Then I found out I was pregnant with our second son, Mason. They would work at the shop with us until they were about 2 years old. At this point, I was helping Tim run his business. From 2022-fall to 2025-fall, I watched Tim run his shop, mow on the weekends in the summer, and plow snow in the winter. Not only was he always working, but as our kids grew older, I realized that I wanted to be a stay-at-home mom but also work. Obviously, this is hard to do, especially with how the world is today. I decided to start a lawn/snow/landscape company.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting my company has been a bumpy road 100%. Not only was the physical work hard (especially with 90+ degree heat), but deciding my route, paying for everything, and kids having to stay home definitely made it difficult. Luckily, most of my clients were understanding when I had to come a day late because the kids were home from daycare. I did end up with heat exhaustion this year during the heat wave we had in Michigan, but most of the grass was not growing at this time, so I was able to recover without having to miss any clients.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Lawns by Lucy LLC?
Lawns by Lucy is a lawn and landscape company. I mow lawns, plow snow, weed gardens, perform landscape removal, help clients with garden design, and bring their ideas to life. I particularly specialize in weekly lawn maintenance and snow plowing, but am always happy when I am asked about landscaping jobs. What sets me apart from other landscaping companies is, for starters, that I am a woman in a male-dominated industry. Not only that, but I put my all into every job. I always make sure the client is happy with how everything looks, and I am happy to put in a little extra time, even if I am not getting paid for it.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory would be helping my mom in her garden. She passed away in May of 2017 due to breast cancer. Being able to work outside and in gardens always reminds me of my mom and all the tips and tricks she gave me growing up.
