Exploring Life & Business with Kristian Sleison of Sleison’s Detailing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristian Sleison. 

Hi Kristian, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
It definitely has been a long journey, I started out 285+lbs, job-hopping, no future, no car, no license and would basically just eat and play video games about 2 years ago and one day I remember just sitting at my desk and just thinking, I need to do something with my life and It’s not fair to me or my girlfriend with the lifestyle I’m living. So, I told myself I’m going to get a good job and start a diet, I started working as a summer gig for my old city I lived at, at New Haven as a city worker, I would typically go around the city of New Haven, weed whip parks and areas, take out trash in parks and cemeteries, fill in potholes, etc. then after the summer I finally got my license and a car. Then I moved away because of family issues and I started living and help around with my grandma, she was everything to me, always motivated me, always made sure I was fed and loved, I would be nothing without her, my first car died and she would give me rides to my job as a detailer in enterprise and all until I got another car… she sadly just recently passed l away and it really hurts, I took care of her every day through her rough time of cancer, she really is an angel. I’d have to give a huge shoutout to my boy Brandon, without him I wouldn’t have the strive for success like I do now, he made sure no matter what I was doin’ somethin and I owe it to him as well… he’d come to my work here and there and I would detail his car and I remember thinking covid vaccines are about to be out more than ever, it’s starting of spring going to summer, peoples going to want their car detailed. So Sleison’s Detailing was born. I raked up some of my money, bought very basic needs for detailing and I started my business to where I am now eventually able to do it full time. I am now also down 100lbs and just moved into my very first place. I started out with nothing, at a very unhealthy weight, a terrible mindset, and just an overall terrible human being. But I’ve learned to take it one day at a time, and do love one another. I love doing what I do every single day and it’s truly a blessing. I also got to give it all to my girlfriend, no matter what kind of person I’ve been she has always been there for me and always have loved me unconditionally. 

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all, there’s a lot of challenges… One of the main challenges is self-discipline, you must have self-discipline before you do anything that you enjoy. Also, a lot of people, “friends” and family doubted me as a person 2 years ago and they still doubt my business so that is a tough obstacle to come to realize that not everyone is going to cheer you on, you need to do what’s necessary for your mental health and well-being and your future. As for losing weight, temptation and laziness was and is still sometimes terrible, especially eating a delicious cake or something I shouldn’t eat, I need to tell myself there’s consequences for everything. And as for working out and everything else what I told myself since day one is to not give up, I’m only cheating myself and if I’m going to give up, give up tomorrow not today and I tell myself that same thing every single day. And it’s hard I’m not going to lie from being a no-one to owning a 5star company, but in the end, hard work pays off, and never give up.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I watch quite a bit of different detailing/mobile detailing YouTubers. Especially when I first started out, they taught me a lot on the ropes of detailing and marketing. While I’m detailing, I love listening to Dave and Chuck the freak podcasts, they always make me laugh and make my day even better
