Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristian Miller.
Hi Kristian, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve spent nearly my entire professional life in spaces rooted in service — restaurants, hotels, corporate dining, events, and community-centered organizations. Service has always been more than hospitality to me; it has been my classroom, my training ground, and a sacred calling. Over the last two decades, I’ve led teams in fine dining, managed high-level hospitality environments, executed large-scale conferences and events, and worked alongside executive leadership — not just to make moments beautiful, but to make people feel valued, seen, and cared for.
Along the way, I discovered something bigger than operations and logistics: I discovered the power of service leadership. I witnessed how the quality of someone’s leadership shapes culture, impacts morale, affects retention, influences financial outcomes, and ultimately determines whether people simply “work”… or truly thrive. I also experienced moments of transition, disappointment, and rebuilding — including navigating unemployment, setbacks, and seasons where I had to choose faith, resilience, and reinvention instead of fear. Those seasons became fuel, not failure.
That’s where Detailed Strategic Services was born.
DSS was created as the bridge between service excellence and transformational leadership. I wanted to help organizations create environments where excellence isn’t demanded — it’s inspired. Where strategy and compassion coexist. Where teams are trained not just to perform, but to believe in the work, the mission, and themselves. Through DSS, I now help businesses, nonprofits, executive leaders, hospitality teams, and emerging professionals elevate service standards, strengthen culture, and lead with intentionality. My approach blends hospitality discipline, leadership development, purpose-driven strategy, and human-centered transformation.
Today, I’m honored to be building something that reflects both my experience and my heart. Detailed Strategic Services is not just a business — it’s a movement rooted in excellence, grace, and empowerment. I believe service has the power to change workplaces, communities, and lives, and I’m committed to being part of that change.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. My journey has been a mix of incredible opportunities, hard-earned lessons, unexpected transitions, and seasons that required deep faith, courage, and resilience. Working in hospitality and events means living in high-pressure environments where expectations are high, timelines are tight, and success depends on how well you lead people in the midst of chaos. I’ve had to navigate burnout, difficult leadership cultures, limited support, and moments where I felt unseen even while producing excellence behind the scenes.
There were also seasons of change I didn’t expect — including career shifts, professional disappointments, and times when doors closed that I was certain were meant for me. Some of those moments were painful, but they were also clarifying. They humbled me, strengthened me, and pushed me to redefine my worth beyond a title, a position, or a paycheck. Those seasons forced me to ask important questions about purpose, leadership, and the environments we create for people to work and thrive in.
Through those challenges, I learned the power of grace, strategy, and intentional leadership. I learned how to rebuild, how to trust myself again, how to advocate for excellence, and how to create healthier, more empowering cultures. Every obstacle ultimately shaped the vision for DSS. It reminded me that resilience isn’t just surviving hard seasons — it’s transforming because of them. And today, I carry those lessons forward in my work, helping organizations and leaders build the kind of environments I once desperately needed.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Detailed Strategic Services, LLC?
Detailed Strategic Services, LLC (DSS) is rooted in one clear belief: service is not just an industry — it’s a standard of humanity, leadership, and excellence. DSS exists at the intersection of hospitality, leadership development, culture-building, and strategic growth. I help organizations, teams, and leaders elevate service standards, strengthen internal culture, and create environments where people feel valued, empowered, and inspired to perform at their highest level.
My background spans restaurants, luxury hospitality, corporate dining, major events, nonprofit leadership, and community work. DSS brings all of that experience together in a way that blends operational discipline with human-centered leadership. I specialize in helping organizations strengthen service systems, leadership performance, team engagement, guest experience design, and values-driven execution. Whether it’s coaching executive leaders, training frontline teams, developing strategic service frameworks, or helping organizations reshape their internal culture, the goal is always the same: build excellence with intention, grace, and accountability.
What sets DSS apart is heart, integrity, and humanity. I don’t just focus on what people do — I care deeply about who they become while doing it. I’ve lived the pressure of service work. I’ve navigated the complexities of leadership environments. I know how it feels to serve at high levels while still wanting to feel seen, supported, and respected. That perspective allows me to lead this work with compassion, emotional intelligence, and authenticity, while still holding a high bar of excellence.
Brand-wise, I am incredibly proud that DSS represents confidence, transformation, faith, grace, resilience, and purpose. It’s a brand built by a Black woman leader who has had to fight through barriers, rebuild after hard seasons, and still choose excellence, joy, and service. DSS is not performative. It’s intentional. It’s deeply personal. And it’s committed to helping organizations not just function well — but lead well.
More than anything, I want readers to know that DSS is a movement as much as it is a business. It’s about redefining what leadership looks like, honoring the dignity of people who serve, and creating systems where excellence, humanity, and purpose can coexist. Service changes environments. Service changes culture. And truly, service has the power to change lives — and I’m honored to help lead that work.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I deeply believe that no one builds anything meaningful alone, and I’m incredibly grateful for the people who have poured into me, believed in me, and helped shape both my leadership and this vision.
I’ve been blessed with mentors and leaders throughout my career who saw my potential, challenged my thinking, sharpened my skills, and reminded me that my voice belonged in rooms that didn’t always feel welcoming. I’m grateful for colleagues, teammates, and industry peers who taught me through collaboration, shared wisdom, accountability, and example.
I also give a lot of credit to the major growth seasons of my journey — including the incredible years I spent in Chicago. My time there stretched me, elevated my leadership capacity, expanded my vision, surrounded me with extraordinary leaders, and prepared me in ways I could have never imagined for the work I’m doing now.
I also give deep honor and thanks to God. My faith has carried me through every transition, every moment of uncertainty, every breakthrough, and every rebuilding season. God’s grace, strength, and guidance have been foundational to everything I’ve accomplished and everything I am still becoming.
I give a lot of credit to the community I come from as well. Detroit, the hospitality world, and the incredible network of women leaders and entrepreneurs around me consistently inspire me to push forward with excellence, intention, and courage. My family — especially my husband, children, and loved ones — have been my grounding force, prayer warriors, encouragement, and safe space to land in both triumph and transition.
And finally, I owe deep gratitude to the clients, organizations, and partners who have trusted me with their people, their culture, and their vision. Every opportunity to serve is something I take seriously, and every collaboration has helped shape DSS into what it is becoming.
So while I work hard, lead boldly, and stay committed to the mission, I proudly stand on the shoulders, prayers, faith, sacrifice, and support of many.
