Today we’d like to introduce you to Komal Farrukh.

Hi Komal, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
When I was around the age of 10, I had a long-term goal that when I am older, I want to create something that works towards helping others. I never really knew how it would be. Sometimes, I would think I could build something like an urgent care or some sort of shelter for those in need. Fast forwarding to 2017, I met my now husband, who is a full-stack software developer. I had gone into the field of Psychology and wanted to become a mental health therapist. From there, my husband made my goal a reality by offering to build me a website where I can help people find a mental health therapist. This website is different because our goal is to focus on helping people of color more because we understand the difficulties of not being able to find a therapist that we feel we can relate to in terms of cultural, racial, or religious background. 

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all. We have had to deal with a lot of bumpy roads, from picking the perfect name, getting our business name approved, finding the right team to help build TherapyScope overall, and learning the different parts to building a mental health website and how we can help mental health workers along with people seeking a therapist. We hit many points of wanting to give up, but at the end of the day, this isn’t just for us; it’s for everyone in need.

Therapyscope is a mental health platform that is being built with very specific algorithms to help people find the best fitting mental health therapist for them. If your focus is just finding someone who can take your insurance or finding someone who can help with your specific issues, we are building something that would match you with the best therapist possible. Therapyscope is being built by someone who has a background in Psychology and is currently working towards a master’s in psychology to gain further knowledge of the field in order to help others. The second person behind this platform is a full-stack software developer with almost 10 years of experience in helping people bring their dream to life. At this time, we will be launching the platform for mental health workers only to sign up and get comfortable with the platform while we work to perfect the user end so the process for finding a therapist is as easy as possible. 

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is when I first started saving money I would get from my parents or any spare change I would find around the house, and I would always ask my dad if I had enough money to build something that could help those in need. This memory is something that I always remind myself of to keep my motivation so I don’t break the goal that the younger version of me had.
