Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Walker.
Hi Julia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I never planned on a beauty career — I wanted to custom-paint cars. But one push from my mom and a discounted cosmetology program changed everything. I hated hair, but the moment I discovered nail art, my artistic background finally had a home.
I became licensed while raising my newborn son as a single mom, worked for my dad’s gutter company during the week, and slowly built my beauty skills on the weekends. Esthetics school in 2018 opened a new passion for skincare, and after COVID changed everything, with my partner’s encouragement, I finally decided to bet on myself.
In 2022, I launched my own business with almost no clients in a city that was new to me, working between two cities just to get by. Three years later, I’m fully booked, I received Freshas “ Highly Recommended Business “ for 2024 and 2025 as a beauty provider, and about to celebrate four years in business. I offer high-end lash, skin, and waxing services — and will add permanent makeup in 2026.
The little tomboy who dreamed of painting cars never would’ve believed I’d own a thriving luxury beauty studio. But sometimes life reroutes you in the most beautiful way possible.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not. Being great at the services I offer was only half the battle — the real challenge was the business side. I started my company in a town where no one knew me, and without an established clientele it was incredibly hard to break into the local beauty scene. I had to prove my work was worth people’s time and trust.
Marketing was another steep learning curve. It didn’t come naturally to me, but with help from an amazing client who built my website, I slowly got my name out there. It took three years to become fully booked.
And one piece of advice for anyone starting a business: hire a CPA. Don’t try to do your own taxes — I learned that the hard (and expensive) way!
We’ve been impressed with JDub Lash and Spa LLC., but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is built as a luxury experience from the moment you walk in. The suite is designed to feel like a mini-vacation — a calming, private space where you can relax, reset, and recharge. Some clients take a nap, some enjoy a quiet break from work or kids, but everyone leaves feeling a little more beautiful and refreshed.
I’m extensively trained in eyelash extensions, which is what I’m most known for. I create completely customized lash styles based on each client’s features and preferences. I also specialize in Brazilian waxing and take great pride in the precision and consistency of my work. I’m a bit of a perfectionist, and attention to detail is truly my strongest skill.
What sets me apart is the level of care and intention I put into every service. I treat each appointment as if it were being done on me — I’m fully invested in the outcome. My consultations are thorough because I want to deeply understand what a client envisions and bring that vision to life as closely as possible.
I’m genuinely passionate about what I do, and that love for the craft allows me to take my time, stay detail-oriented, and give every client a luxury experience that feels personal, thoughtful, and tailored just for them.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Start-up costs can get overwhelming fast, so don’t overspend in the beginning. Focus on just a few essential services, stock only what you need for those, and build gradually as your income grows. You don’t want to dig yourself into a financial hole right out of the gate.
My biggest piece of advice is to hire a CPA. Tax laws change constantly, and a professional can save you money, prevent surprises, and help keep your business on track. It’s absolutely worth it.
Never stop learning — continuing education is everything. There’s always something new to learn so stay humble.
And finally, surround yourself with a strong support system. Find a friend or family member who truly believes in your goals and lean on them when the road gets tough. There will be rough patches, but with hard work, perseverance, and the right people in your corner, you can reach every goal you set for yourself.
