Exploring Life & Business with Jonas Melton of Exodus Entertainment

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonas Melton

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Ever since my first concert, I knew I had a special sort of love for live music, a love that only grew as I got older. The first festival I ever attended totally changed my life and I quickly made EDM one of my main focuses. Although hosting events wasn’t financially a possibility for me at that time, I steadily manifested and visualized a future where I would be capable of doing so. I constantly told friends things like “just watch, one day I will be hosting my own raves”

Fast-forward through several years of hard work and saving, I was blessed to have had the ability to purchase my first home, which I ultimately sold with the intention of starting an Entertainment Company. In 2024, I took a total leap of faith and put it all on the line to start my company, Exodus Entertainment. On January 27th 2024, I hosted my first event “Bommer and Yunit – Skraight from The Underground”, truly a dream come true, being I have listened to Bommer since I was 14 years old. What a great event it was, one Detroit will never forget.

Initially, upon founding Exodus, the plan was to host many genres, but after our first show I fell deeply in love with the dubstep scene and especially the riddim scene. I have since made Exodus Entertainments’ main mission to broaden Michigan’s presence in the world of dubstep.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Hosting events and building my company has not been a smooth road but, it’s been a scenic route worth taking. I will say I have been truly blessed in many ways. The universe has put me in some amazing situations and connected me with people whom I value very much and have become key parts of my support structure, but most of all, truly great friends. Without a few key synchronicities, I don’t think we could have progressed nearly as fast.

With that said, the main struggle above all has been the learning curve of diving head first into such a demanding industry with little knowledge of the ins and outs. Every single day is a learning experience. I have learned more in my first year than I have learned in my entire life. Many of the struggles I have experienced are staples of any promoters’ story, so I don’t let them weigh on me too much. You have to have thick skin and the flexibility to constantly evolve.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Exodus Entertainment is an organically grown company that curates dubstep events in the heart of Michigan. We bring a breath of fresh air to the entertainment industry with our focus on the underground and our creatively branded events with various intriguing themes.

Exodus represents the idea of human beings coming together in the pursuit of mental/spiritual freedom through music and personal connection. We have a deep connection with our fans and are lucky to have a beautiful street team composed entirely of active members of the scene. We take pride in being deeply rooted in what we do.

What makes you happy?
To put it simply, making people happy makes me happy. When its show time and everyone is on the dance floor laughing, dancing, cheering. That is what fuels me, those are the moments I day dream of. If my guests had a good time, then I call that a success. I often spend my events in the crowd mingling with guests and getting feedback from them on how good of a night they’re having. I like to say “We don’t sell tickets, we sell smiles”
