Exploring Life & Business with Johanne Edwards of Edwards Natural Care LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Johanne Edwards.

Hi Johanne, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always been drawn to science and problem solving. From a young age, I pursued discovery — winning awards in science fairs and traveling with the “Five Talents” student group, where I was exposed to world-class laboratories and pioneering scientists. Among them was Dr. Helen Blair Barlett of the Manhattan Project, who influenced my perspective on being both a scientist and a woman balancing career and family.
I went on to study chemistry, mathematics, and engineering, breaking barriers for women in the 1970s. Over my 25-year career in the automotive industry, I worked primarily as an Industrial Engineer, playing a major role in the transformation of automobiles from mechanical to electronic systems. I spearheaded projects including cruise control assembly lines, offshore electronics facilities, and large-scale plant redesigns.
A turning point came when I attended a Leadership Seminar called Empowerment for Women, conducted by Sidney Bonvallet the first female executive to receive a corporate bonus. Her class changed my life. I realized how much I had suppressed my own pain from physical and sexual abuse, and how I had been going through the motions without truly living. That weekend, I made a decision: to dedicate myself to the work of healing.
For the next 23 years, I facilitated transformational workshops — seven years alongside Sydney, and fifteen years on my own. During this time, I led thousands of participants through deep healing processes, helping them face trauma, let go of inner pain, and move toward forgiveness. I also continued my own healing journey, learning from workshops around the world. Remarkably, I began to notice that some participants were experiencing spontaneous remissions from chronic illnesses.
This observation propelled me back to school at age 70. I studied Quantum Medicine at Quantum University, earning a Doctorate in Natural Medicine and a PhD. My dissertation, Trauma and the Quantum Leap, explored the link between traumatic life experiences and disease through both cellular biology and quantum physics. Inspired by Dr. Bruce Lipton’s Biology of Belief, I researched how deeply held beliefs shape biology and how healing can occur through changes in perception.
Today, I operate Edwards Natural Care LLC, where I integrate emotional healing, nutrition, and detoxification to address chronic illness. I see health as a whole-body process — body, mind, and spirit — and I am passionate about preventive, regenerative practices.
On this journey, I have experienced profound personal growth and found purposeful living. My most valuable lesson has not been about having all the answers, but about learning to ask the right questions.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Balancing the many demands of being a mother, wife, community member, and professional has been both my challenge and my greatest joy. I raised two wonderful daughters and am now blessed with five grandchildren. For 51 years I was married to Steve Edwards, a dynamic and visionary builder who left a lasting legacy in our community by constructing more than 500 homes and numerous commercial projects, especially in Grand Blanc and Fenton. Together, we invested deeply in our community, contributing to many civic projects and volunteering for local governments and nonprofit organizations, including Habitat for Humanity.

Life presented its greatest challenges during the last 15 years of Steve’s life, when he became totally disabled from exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam. Balancing care giving, family responsibilities, and professional ambitions was difficult, but it also shaped my journey. During those years, I returned to school, earned my doctorate, and ultimately opened my clinic. That season of perseverance deepened my commitment to helping others restore health and balance in their own lives.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am proud to be the only Doctor of Natural Medicine in Michigan, with an additional PhD in Trauma and Addiction Recovery. My doctoral thesis, *Trauma and the Quantum Leap*, explored the relationship between trauma (both acute and chronic), on our belief systems, quantum physics (at the subatomic level,) and the processes of trauma healing.
At my clinic, I focus on chronic illness and specialize in seeing the most difficult cases — the clients who have tried everything else then come to me as a last hope. My work begins with a comprehensive Nutritional Exam, a two-hour process, for the first session and them two additional sessions conducted over a 90-day period.
The Nutritional Exam Process
Session I: Initial Assessment
– System Survey (a detailed questionnaire by body system)
– Patient History Form
– Review of physiology and physical exam
– Review of labs, medications, and supplementation

The System Survey helps uncover patterns you might not even realize matter. Organized by body systems, it identifies stress points such as:
• Sympathetic vs. parasympathetic dominance
• Sugar handling
• Cardiovascular integrity
• Liver/gallbladder function
• Digestion
• Endocrine balance (thyroid, pituitary, adrenals)
• B vitamin deficiencies
• Male/female system support
Session II: Findings & Health Dialogue
– A deep dive into your results and health evaluation
– A second conversation to go beyond symptoms and look at root causes
– Development of recommendations for diet, nutritional support, and stress reduction
– Review of potential additional testing and next steps
Session III: Progress & Adjustments
– Review of progress since Session I
– Revisit goals and assess improvements
– Address any difficulties or new issues
– Update recommendations, including detox protocols, emotional work, or lifestyle coaching
Philosophy of Care
What sets my clinic apart is our unwavering focus on identifying and addressing the cause of illness, rather than simply treating symptoms. A quote from Rumi captures this philosophy beautifully:
“Maybe you are searching among the branches, for what only appears at the roots.”
We treat the whole person — mind, body, and spirit — by integrating natural medicine with mind/body practices such as hypnosis, timeline therapy, and energy healing.
Our Team
– Dr.Johanne Edwards] — Doctor of Natural Medicine, PhD in Trauma & Illness
– Ren Barcey, RN — Clinical support
– Leslie Krol, Therapist — Specialist in energy healing

Together, we provide a compassionate and integrative healing environment for those facing the challenges of chronic illness.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I believe that life lessons come to us in many different ways. The challenge is that we often receive the same lesson again and again until we are finally ready to learn it. Life has a way of circling back, gently or sometimes forcefully, to remind us of what we have not yet faced or embraced.

Over the years, I’ve come to see that the people who cross our paths — whether friends, family, colleagues, or even those who challenge us — are some of our greatest teachers. Sometimes they bring joy, encouragement, and wisdom; other times they bring difficulty, conflict, or loss. But in every case, they hold up a mirror that reflects something within ourselves waiting to be acknowledged.

The best outcomes in life happen when we are willing to pause, look inward, and ask, “What is this experience trying to teach me?” Adversity becomes less of a punishment and more of an invitation — an opportunity to deepen awareness, expand compassion, and grow stronger.

Our teachers are everywhere along the journey. They may appear in the form of a setback, a difficult relationship, or even a chance encounter with a stranger. What matters most is not the form they take but our awareness — our willingness to notice, reflect, and integrate the lesson. Awareness is the key that transforms repeated struggles into lasting wisdom.
