Exploring Life & Business with Jill Maxwell of Max Well Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jill Maxwell.

Jill Maxwell

Hi Jill, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
Jill has been a physical therapist for over 36 years. She graduated from the University of North Dakota and after many blizzards, earned her degree in Physical Therapy in 1987. She has taken multiple advanced educational courses specializing in craniosacral therapy & myofascial release, amongst other orthopedic and neurological courses. As a young, passionate therapist, she worked as a traveling therapist. Jill literally flipped a coin to continue her growth, which landed her in Flint, MI. In 1989, she held a role as supervisor in Flint Osteopathic Hospital- Rehab Care Unit and worked her way towards becoming a Rehab Director for Physical, Occupational, & Speech Therapy in Riverbend. In 1998, Jill decided to take her next leap and start her own private practice. She has now been in business for over 25 years in the Flint area and Grand Blanc since 2007. In addition to that, she has a Pediatric Clinic next to Laugh and Learn ABA Center for Autism in Flint and a Clinic within the Laugh and Learn Center for Autism in Brighton. Her passion is to help everyone in our community MAXimize their health and WELLness.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
In 2008, when the economy crashed, it made it very hard for people to have healthcare coverage. Most of our patients use insurance to pay for their therapy. So, with little to no coverage and everyone being tight on funds, it affected our ability to provide services. After that, so many things changed; insurance companies started paying out less, staffing needs came at a higher cost, and so much more. You can’t predict the future and you can’t control what the government does. I will never forget seeing so many people lose their business to that crisis. In order for me to stay afloat, I had to cut down staff and put more hours in myself. And I’m still doing it. The effects have not gone away. All we can do is “condense, consolidate and try to provide quality services.” But I will continue to persevere.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Max Well Therapy, LLC?
Jill has networked with a variety of private practice groups across the country who have helped herself stay a private practice through training and encouragement. In doing so, Max Well Therapy prides itself on being able to provide one-on-one services to their patients. “We care more about you than just your name.” There are hundreds of reviews online from actual patients who rave about the encouraging and personable atmosphere in the clinic. Max Well Therapy, LLC provides physical, occupational, speech, and massage therapy. As well as many other treatment options under those four umbrellas, such as; hand, Laser, craniosacral, and Vital-Stim therapies.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Everyone should have someone they can exchange ideas with. Two heads are always better than one. I enjoy being able to listen to other business owners and share experiences. “If something worked for them, it may work for you.” The world is all about connections. Without them, it’s going to be hard to survive. There are so many resources to help you succeed. From online group workshops to articles that share tips, the options are there. You just have to take the step to accept a new opportunity for growth.
