Exploring Life & Business with Jaylyn Jones of Justfaceitcosmetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaylyn Jones

Hi Jaylyn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story started in college. I was at my friends dorm room at EMU while her suite mate Maysa was doing her makeup. I had only known the basics of makeup and was avid to learn more about the techniques and products she used. Maysa had shown me where to apply the products and what products were essential to achieve the look everyone on campus pretty much had mastered. A few months later Covid had hit and students had to leave the campus. Once I returned home, I immediately picked up a hobby, but it I was not makeup i picked up, it was nails. I practice applying acrylic on my hands and others yet i still did not feel like i loved what I was doing. it was fun but i had no emotional connection to it. Within that same year (August 2020) I moved back on campus but I was living in college apartments, campus was still dead as students had yet to adjust to the new norm of life post Covid and asynchronous class. During that time, I spent it doing many hobbies like sewing, nails, interior decorating, working out and playing in makeup. It wasn’t until my friend Ayana whose 20th birthday was approaching and she asked me to do her makeup, Before she asked i had only practiced on myself, I thought she was crazy for entrusting me to do something like that on such a special day. On the day of her birthday I was a bit nervous, but the application afterward turned out better than i thought, and she liked it as well. So fourth i went on to do my friends makeup becoming their personally makeup artist. My sister would also help build my skills and the reason i became so much better. It was my friends and my sister that encouraged me to take makeup seriously and start getting paid for it, With so much support behind me I mapped out a plan on how I would start taking in clients. It wasn’t until this year I executed my plan, in doing so I had became so much better at my craft, I made extra money on the side, and continue to go viral for my content on my makeup page. Taking the the initiative step toward starting a small business has taught me so much about myself, I’ve cried nothing but tears of joy since i started. I’ve completed so many other goals because of this business and although I am still building this journey in itself has did more for me than what I thought it would, I can only imagine what my destination would like. But for now, I am enjoying the ride.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Majority of it has been smooth, I think most entrepreneurs would agree we are very sensitive about our craft. So anything that doesn’t align with our goals and vision we tend to feel like were doing an awful job, whereas someone outside looking in can’t wait to be in the position you’re in. I’ll give an example, one in which I think is crazy to this day,
I had converted my old bedroom to my makeup room in which i would be taking clients. I was so excited I couldn’t wait to decorate and start taking people in. I started to apply my wallpaper, picked brand colors, I had a theme and everything. bought furniture worked on my back drop and just continuously adding to the room. But as I would scroll on Instagram I would compare my work space to others, I started to think the colors i picked were too girly, and tacky, that my work space didn’t give that ig aesthetic that all the girls loved. So i started to regret, and overthink and compare myself to this unrealistic world that was on my screen. Until someone one day, re-posted a reel i had uploaded showing my work space and the service I provided, and was saying how much she loved my workspace and she couldn’t wait to move so she could decorate her makeup room, all because she loved the way i decorated it. In that moment I knew God was sending me a message, telling me to stop being so caught up in my mind and just do what makes me happy.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Justfaceitcosmetics is a small business that offers makeup services to all. I also create content that that is both educational and entertainment, my content has gone viral multiply times and also helps my clients and audience to get the chance to know what my personality is like before they sit in my chair. When my clients tell me they found me on my social media platform and love my videos it allows me to keep going and know that I am not making content in vain. I want people to know that I get that they beauty industry can seem dismissive towards your wants and needs and its just another way your service provider pays the bills. But for me I genuinely love what I do, I want that to reflect onto my clients. I want them to relax and enjoy the service just as much as I do.

What matters most to you?
What matters to me the most is setting up a future for me and my family to live comfortability. Whether i accomplish that with my small business, content creating or school. I know my family will be stable no matter what path I choose to go down. Most importantly, maintaining my mental health is pivotal in doing anything. If that isn’t aligned with what I’m doing then I can expect pretty much the worst performance in whatever I do.
