Hi Goddess, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started doing hair when I was 13 years old, and from the very beginning, I experienced it as something much deeper than a beauty service. Long before I had the language to explain it, I simply knew the crown deserved to be cared for as more than hair. To me, the crown has always been connected to our identity, our emotional well-being, and the way we experience ourselves. This wasn’t something I had studied or could fully explain at the time. It was simply an inner knowing that shaped the way I cared for people.
As my career evolved, that curiosity led me to study the relationship between hair, identity, trauma, and emotional wellness. In 2021, I became Detroit’s first Certified PsychoHairapist®, which gave language and a professional framework to something I had been practicing intuitively for years.
Building Goddess Thairapy wasn’t a straight path. Like many entrepreneurs, it required faith, perseverance, and a willingness to keep moving forward even when the vision wasn’t fully visible. I renovated my own salon from the ground up, creating a space that reflected the experience I wanted every client to have—a place where they could feel seen, cared for, and restored.
Today, Goddess Thairapy continues to grow as an extension of that same vision. What began as an inner knowing at 13 years old has become my life’s work, and while the business has evolved over the years, the heart of it has remained the same: creating intentional spaces where people can reconnect with themselves through care of the crown.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like most entrepreneurs, my journey hasn’t been a smooth road. Every challenge has deepened both me and the vision behind Goddess Thairapy.
I opened Goddess Thairapy on March 1, 2017, full of hope and excitement for what was ahead. Just eight months later, my sister died by suicide. Within 24 hours, my uncle passed away from prostate cancer. As a new business owner, I was suddenly learning how to navigate unimaginable grief while continuing to lead a business and care for the people who walked through my doors.
That season forever changed the way I see people. It taught me that everyone is carrying something, even when it’s invisible, and that compassion isn’t just a personal value—it’s something that can shape the way we work, lead, and serve.
A few years later, the COVID-19 pandemic brought another layer of uncertainty. Like many small business owners, I wasn’t sure whether Goddess Thairapy would survive. When we reopened after three months, I witnessed something I hadn’t fully understood before. People weren’t only coming in for healthy hair—they were coming in for connection. They needed a place to exhale after months of isolation, uncertainty, and collective grief.
That experience affirmed something I had believed since I was 13 years old: beauty has always been about more than appearance. Our industry became part of people’s healing, and I saw firsthand how meaningful intentional care could be during some of life’s most difficult seasons.
Those experiences became some of my greatest teachers. They taught me that leadership isn’t only about building a successful business. It’s about learning how to care for people with compassion, even while tending to your own healing. They continue to remind me that every person carries a story we may never fully see. That’s why creating a space where people feel cared for, respected, and safe has never been an extra part of my work. It is the work.

We specialize in healthy crown care, natural hair, loc installation, maintenance, restoration, and education while creating experiences that honor both the physical and emotional experience of beauty.
What sets Goddess Thairapy apart is the intention behind the work. Every service begins with understanding the individual because no two crowns, lifestyles, or life experiences are the same. My goal has never been to simply create beautiful hair. It’s to create an experience where people feel seen, respected, educated, and genuinely cared for.
As Detroit’s first Certified PsychoHairapist®, I’ve been able to bring together my lifelong understanding of the relationship between crown care and emotional well-being with research and professional training. That perspective shapes the environment we’ve created, the conversations we have, and the way we approach every client with compassion, intention, and individualized care.
What I’m most proud of is the trust we’ve built within our community. Clients return not only because of the quality of the work, but because of how they feel while they’re here. That, to me, is the greatest compliment and the foundation of everything Goddess Thairapy stands for.
My goal is to continue educating and speaking about the relationship between beauty and emotional wellness, helping elevate the role of beauty practitioners as trusted contributors to the well-being of the communities they serve. I believe the beauty industry has always had the potential to be more than a place of transformation on the outside. When approached with intention, it can become a space for restoration, connection, and healing.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to trust the quiet inner knowing that has guided me from the very beginning.
There have been many moments throughout my journey when the practical path and the purposeful path didn’t look the same. Building a business, navigating personal loss, leading through uncertainty, and creating something that didn’t fit the traditional definition of a salon all required me to trust a vision that wasn’t always fully visible.
I’ve learned that purpose doesn’t always reveal itself all at once. Sometimes it unfolds one step, one conversation, and one act of faith at a time.
I’ve also learned that success isn’t measured only by what we build, but by the lives we impact along the way. Every person who leaves my chair feeling more confident, more seen, or more connected to themselves reminds me why this work matters.
If there’s one lesson I hope others take away from my journey, it’s this: Don’t ignore the quiet voice within you simply because it doesn’t make sense to everyone else. Sometimes your greatest contribution begins as something only you can see.
