Exploring Life & Business with Elin Walters of Exactly

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elin Walters.

Hi Elin, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today. 
I started Exactly in 2017, after completing the renovation of our Midcentury home in the Wines neighborhood of Ann Arbor. It was during this process that I realized how much I enjoyed Midcentury Modern design. Our home was featured in the nationally circulated magazine Atomic Ranch, and that began the building block from which I started helping others renovate their Midcentury homes. Exactly has since branched off into commercial work, in addition to residential, bringing color, pattern, and fun to a variety of spaces. 

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There certainly has been a learning curve as I’ve approached the career in a non-traditional way. Having not been formally educated in interior design, but understanding design intuitively, I’ve had to learn as I go, asking lots of questions, doing lots of researching, and just plain jumping in with confidence that I’d figure it out as I go. Fortunately, there haven’t been any disasters, and projects have gone very well. 

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Exactly?
We specialize in new construction and renovation—bringing a cohesive mid-century style to brand-new spaces and vintage homes. 

We’re known for our expertise in whimsical mid-century modern—steeped in color pattern and custom to every client. 

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Take risks and have confidence! You can always figure out an answer. You just need to start!
