Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Cutting hair has been a part of my life growing up. It started with my grandpa then my father now me. I have been a barber for over 10 years. I started off in my basement giving haircuts just for fun and it was nothing serious. I met my wife when i was 19 and my life turned 360 degrees in the best way. I saw a big future ahead of me and knew i needed to do something about it. I started working at a barbershop for a few years back in 2020 and got a really good amount of clients. I ended up back in my basement and turned it into a whole salon. Did that for a few more years. My wife and I would talk about our dreams and one of mine was to own my own barbershop. We worked hard nights planning things out coming up with names and boom we got it… Elite Stylez Barber shop. We looked for our location. I was worried to go all out so i started with a smaller shop that had 5 chairs and when we opened its like everything worked out just like my dreams. The shop got very busy to the point where there would not be any place to sit. I stayed there for a couple years and knew i needed to expand. A great opportunity came up for a building down the road. And I knew I had to take it. Signed my lease with them the building was double the size of the current one that I have completely customized it and remodeled that the way that I wanted it to be. Was able to have 10 chairs and I couldn’t have been more blessed. I was very happy that I was down the street because I could keep my same clientele. This barbershop has brought me so many blessings I was able to buy my first house me and my wife flipped the whole house and remodeled it all and sold it and bought our dream home we just welcomed our baby girl couple months ago and somewhere down the line I plan on opening another location.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like any business, it hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Building a barbershop takes time, consistency, and a strong reputation, and in the beginning, gaining steady clientele was one of the biggest challenges. There’s also the pressure of standing out in a competitive industry while maintaining high-quality work every day.
Another challenge has been balancing growth—bringing in new talent, training apprentices, and expanding—while still making sure every client receives the same level of service we’re known for.
Through it all, those challenges have helped shape our work ethic and push us to improve. We’ve learned to stay patient, stay consistent, and focus on delivering quality, which is what continues to move the business forward.
