Exploring Life & Business with Cherise Hampton of Classy Chick Boutique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cherise Hampton.

Hi Cherise, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Cherise Hampton, the owner of Classy Chick Boutique in Jackson, MI. Classy Chick Boutique is an online and in-store women’s clothing boutique that specializes in keeping women stylish and classy while complimenting the beautiful shapes and sizes of women without compromising their integrity.

I’ve always loved style and fashion. When I was younger, what I wore was more about getting attention based on what I could “show off.” As I matured and my relationship with God began to grow, I began to see the beauty in carrying myself classy. This is when the thought of opening a boutique came to me. I endeavor to show the world that you can be stylish without showing all of your goods.

I wanted the name of the boutique to group all women, no matter the age together. That’s when I came up with the name Classy Chick Boutique. Being classy isn’t just for the older, it’s for everyone. My motto is, “Always remember to keep it classy.” Being classy isn’t just about how you dress, but how you carry yourself.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a business from scratch and tapping to an already over-saturated market was my worst fear. Who will listen? Who can I reach? No one knows me, so why would anyone listen to or shop with me? These were some of the questions that went through my head. I started selling clothes from my home and keeping inventory in my basement. My close family and friends supported me, but that wasn’t the vision God gave me. I appreciated their support, but I wanted to touch the world. I didn’t know how that would be possible if I could only sell to the people around me.

I had to maintain my 9-5 job as an Accountant because in the beginning the boutique wasn’t a financial support. It’s hard when you have a vision or dream and everything in you wants to pursue it, but the obstacles around you say, “give up.” That’s when you have to fight. I wondered if anyone would listen to my fashion concept but staying true to myself and what I believe in is paying off. There were days I wanted to give up because it seemed no one cared. Days when I had no sales. Days when I looked at social media and realized most people want to show it all off. Now I receive numerous messages from women expressing how they appreciate what Classy Chick Boutique displays to the world. These type of messages confirm that I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing. I left the basement, and now have a boutique space along with my own photography studio. As my business continues to grow, I am simply appreciative. This is just the beginning. Bigger and better ahead!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Classy Chick Boutique, we want women to see the genuine beauty in themselves no matter their shape or size. The goal isn’t just to be an average boutique. When you shop Classy Chick Boutique, the objective is to empower women. We may not be able to reach every woman in the world, but if one life can be impacted in a positive way, we have done our job. This isn’t just about clothes. It’s about being an example and showing the world that women are beautiful, and we don’t have to compromise to fit in. We can be stylish, have class and standards and still stand out. This is what we are most proud of.
