Exploring Life & Business with Charity Gee of Charity Gee Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charity Gee.

Charity Gee

Hi Charity, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been passionate about photography for as long as I can remember. About 12 years ago, I began photographing special life events for my family and friends, such as senior, engagement, maternity, newborn, and even the occasional wedding photos. I absolutely loved it and dreamed that one day I could take the leap into full-time photography. I had a successful corporate career in the field of Human Resources, and as much as I loved photography, I was fearful for a long time to leave a job that helped support my family. However, in recent years, I had a change of perspective and felt strongly that life is short, and I should pursue the work that I love, even if that meant sacrificing the consistent income I earned as a business professional. So, after 21 years with the same company, and thanks to a very supportive husband and family, I left the corporate world in January 2023 to pursue full-time wedding, portrait, and brand photography. Now I’m living my dream of capturing the most precious, fleeting moments of life…celebrating a high school graduation, popping the question, sharing vows with the one you love, bringing new life into the world, and most recently, helping professionals and businesses grow their brand.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I don’t think starting a business ever comes easy, and I knew that going into it. The biggest hurdle I’ve encountered is simply getting my name out there as a “new” photographer. Although I’ve been building my skills as a photographer over many years, I’m still new to this as my full-time profession. It’s a catch-22; you have to create content to get clients, but you need clients to create content. People want experienced photographers, and I understand that it is just going to take time to build my reputation in this field. I look forward to seeing how my business has grown in a year or two.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
Charity Gee Photography offers wedding, portrait, and brand photography. I aim to tell a story with lifestyle photography, capturing candid moments of my clients. My editing style is bright, with clean, true-to-life color. What I hope sets me apart is the client experience. It’s all about their vision, not mine. I want my clients to not only love the images but to also love the full experience. I’m not a fan of formal, stiff posing, so I like to have fun with my clients and give them prompts to capture real emotion.

Other than capturing beautiful images of my clients, I’m most proud of offering a professional, reliable service. I use an experienced vendor to host my website, communicate professional legal contracts and questionnaires, and deliver online client galleries and mobile gallery apps. From first point of inquiry to final image delivery, my goal is for the client to feel well taken care of and understand exactly what to expect from booking a photography session with me.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My family brings me the most happiness. I am a wife and mother of three beautiful children. I love that owning my own business affords me more flexibility to prioritize time with my family. And, now that I am doing what I love as my full-time job, I am so much happier and can give more energy to my family. I hope I’ve set a good example for my kids and they have the courage to chase their own dreams.
