Today we’d like to introduce you to Carmen Alcaraz.
Hi Carmen, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
There are moments in life that change our destiny forever. I never imagined that one day I would have to leave behind my country, my business, my livelihood, and much of the life I had worked so hard to build in order to start over from scratch.
I was born in Mexico, where I had the privilege of helping build a family business while raising my three children. My work was driven by the dream of creating a better future for my family. Our company imported products from China and distributed them throughout Mexico. I was responsible for overseeing administration, accounting, finance, and the company’s overall operations, while also leading a team of more than 135 employees. Those years taught me that leadership is about much more than managing a business. It is about serving others, making responsible decisions, earning people’s trust, and never losing sight of the human side of every organization.
Then life took an unexpected turn.
After going through a very difficult divorce, I lost almost everything I had spent years building. Beyond the financial loss, I felt as though I had lost a part of my identity. It was one of the most painful and uncertain seasons of my life.
Yet there was one thing I refused to lose: my faith. With the love of my three children as my greatest motivation and a deep trust in God, I made one of the most important decisions of my life—to move to the United States and begin again.
Ten years ago, I arrived with little more than a suitcase filled with hope, determination, and uncertainty. I left behind my career, my family, my friends, and everything familiar. What I brought with me were my values, my professional experience, my willingness to work hard, and the unwavering belief that God never abandons those who continue moving forward.
The language barrier became one of my greatest challenges. When I arrived, I did not speak English. I remember not understanding conversations, struggling to express myself, and feeling uncertain in everyday situations. There were many moments when I felt vulnerable. But little by little, one word at a time and one conversation at a time, I kept learning.
Today I understand much more than I did when I first arrived, but I continue working to become fluent. I am not embarrassed to say that I still have much to learn. In fact, I believe humility means recognizing that growth never ends and that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
Throughout this journey, God placed extraordinary people in my life. Mentors, friends, and professionals believed in me when I was rebuilding my future. Their guidance, encouragement, and generosity reminded me that no one succeeds alone.
With perseverance, continuous learning, and faith, I gradually rebuilt my professional life. Today I have the privilege of working in the tax industry in the United States. I am a Certified Acceptance Agent (CAA), authorized by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to process ITIN applications. I also participate in the IRS Annual Filing Season Program (AFSP), reflecting my commitment to continuing education and professional excellence.
My practice focuses on individual and business tax preparation, bookkeeping, and payroll services. More importantly, I see my profession as an opportunity to serve others. Every client who walks through my door brings more than tax documents—they bring a story, a family, a dream, or a business they have worked hard to build. Perhaps because I also had to start over, I understand how important it is to listen, to guide people with patience, and to treat every client with empathy, honesty, and respect.
One of the reasons I love this profession is that learning never stops. Tax laws change constantly, and every year brings new regulations, new opportunities, and new challenges. That is why I remain committed to continuing my education. One of my long-term professional goals is to earn the Enrolled Agent (EA) credential, one of the most respected federal tax credentials in the United States. For me, it is not simply another professional designation—it represents my commitment to serving my clients with the highest level of knowledge, ethics, and professionalism.
There is one symbol that has always inspired me: the eagle.
To me, the eagle represents resilience and transformation. There was a time when I felt I had lost everything that gave me security, yet it was during that season that I discovered strengths I never knew I possessed. The eagle reminds me that our greatest challenges often become the foundation for our greatest growth. Today my business continues to grow, but that is not what makes me most proud.
My greatest reward is knowing that I can help others while continuing to grow myself. Every client is an opportunity to serve, every challenge is an opportunity to learn, and every day is another reason to be grateful.
Looking back, I now understand that every chapter of my life had a purpose. Success taught me responsibility. Hardship taught me resilience. Faith taught me hope. And new beginnings taught me that it is never too late to rebuild your life.
If there is one thing I hope people take away from my story, it is not my professional achievements or certifications. I hope they remember that no matter how difficult life becomes, we always have the ability to begin again.
I firmly believe that God has a purpose for each of us. My journey is living proof that with faith, integrity, perseverance, and a willingness to keep learning, even the most difficult endings can become beautiful new beginnings. Today, I continue writing my story. And as long as God gives me the opportunity to serve others, continue learning, and grow both personally and professionally, I will keep moving forward with the same hope that brought me to this country ten years ago—the hope of proving that new beginnings can become extraordinary stories.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Learning and becoming fluent in English.
Being away from my family.
Keeping up with the constant changes in the tax industry.
We’ve been impressed with ALCARAZ TAX AND SERVICES LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Alcaraz Tax & Services LLC was founded with a simple but meaningful purpose: to help individuals, families, and small business owners navigate the U.S. tax system with confidence, integrity, and peace of mind.
Although I currently operate the business myself, I have never viewed my work as simply preparing tax returns. Every client who walks through my door has a unique story, a family, or a business they have worked hard to build. My goal is to provide personalized guidance, honest advice, and professional service while building long-term relationships based on trust.
I specialize in individual and business tax preparation, bookkeeping, payroll services, and ITIN application processing as an IRS-authorized Certified Acceptance Agent (CAA). My passion is serving the Hispanic community by helping clients better understand the U.S. tax system so they can make informed financial decisions and build a stronger future for themselves and their families. What sets Alcaraz Tax & Services LLC apart is the personal attention every client receives. I believe that listening carefully, taking the time to explain each process, and treating every client with respect and compassion are just as important as technical knowledge.
I am also committed to continuous professional development. The tax industry is constantly evolving, with new tax laws, regulations, and compliance requirements every year. That is why I continue investing in my education to ensure my clients receive accurate, ethical, and up-to-date guidance. I also participate in the IRS Annual Filing Season Program (AFSP), and one of my long-term professional goals is to earn the Enrolled Agent (EA) credential, one of the most respected professional credentials in federal taxation. What makes me most proud is not simply growing my business, but earning the trust of my clients. Many of them return year after year and confidently recommend my services to their family members and friends. That trust is the greatest compliment I could ever receive.
My hope is that people recognize Alcaraz Tax & Services LLC not only as a tax and accounting firm, but as a place where they feel welcomed, respected, educated, and genuinely supported. I want every client to leave my office with confidence, knowing they have someone who truly cares about their success and is committed to helping them achieve their financial goals.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something many people may not know about me is that I am naturally very curious. Whenever I find an answer, I always want to understand the “why” behind it. I am not satisfied with simply knowing how to do something—I want to understand the law, the reasoning, and the foundation behind every procedure. That curiosity has helped me grow professionally and has allowed me to provide better, more informed service to my clients.
