Today we’d like to introduce you to Bremer Produce.
Hi Bremer, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
The U-pick flower field at Bremer Produce started as part of the farm’s seasonal offerings and grew largely organically from customer interest.
Starting off, the field had only sunflowers, and because that was such a hit with the community, we expanded it significantly in following years to include a wide range of flowers suitable for making a quality bouquet. Now our U-pick experience is one of the largest in the Midwest!
We see the U-pick flower field as a way to bring people out into nature, create joyful experiences with family and friends, and spread a bit of beauty and generosity through something simple like picking and arranging flowers.— It’s a community-oriented experience that lets people interact with our farm in a relaxed, affordable way.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of our biggest challenges had been managing frequent wet conditions in the flower field, After almost every rain, visitors would leave with beautiful bouquets but very muddy shoes. Because we wanted the field to be enjoyable for visitors, standing water and muddy areas were something we needed to address. Over time, we realized we needed a long-term solution rather than just working around it. We invested in installing proper drainage throughout the field, which has made a huge difference. It’s helped keep the field more accessible, and improved flower health. While it was a learning process, it’s been worth it to make sure people can comfortably enjoy the U-pick field throughout the season.
Another unexpected challenge we faced was road construction the past two summers. While our u-pick flower field was in bloom, the main road to our farm was closed, which made finding us a little more adventurous than we planned. Thankfully, our community stuck with us, followed the detour signs, and made the trip anyway! It reminded us how supportive our visitors are and how important clear communication and advertising can be.
