Exploring Life & Business with Bree Byle of Bree Rose Creative

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bree Byle

Hi Bree, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am a photographer and graphic designer based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I started my business, Bree Rose Creative, in 2022 when I was looking for a way to combine my design and photography experience with my love of books. I had been working in the book publishing industry for several years, and was ready for a change and a new challenge.

Becoming a freelancer has given me the flexibility to build a unique business that offers a variety of design and photography services to authors and publishers. Since starting my business, I’ve worked with independent authors and several publishing houses to design books, create illustrations, and build author brands with creative photography and website design.

I couldn’t decide what I wanted to be when I grew up, so I settled on multi-passionate creative professional! Using my skills to help authors bring their words and ideas into the visual space is a joy and a privilege.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Embarking on a new business venture is never easy, especially in the book world. It can be difficult to build a business whose main clientele are often the ‘starving artist’ writers or publishers with a limited marketing budget. A challenge I face daily is balancing the needs of running a business with a desire to help writers bring their books and ideas to life. I straddle the line of business and art regularly, and managing that tension can be difficult.

We’ve been impressed with Bree Rose Creative, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business offers design and photography services to authors and publishers. Words are powerful, but are difficult to convey in our image-based world. I work with both independent authors and large publishing houses to bring book concepts and author brands into the visual space.

I offer two main services: Website design, and author and book styling photography. My website services offer a range of designs depending on the author’s needs: a one-page online profile for those getting started, or a complete branded site for established writers. For those in West Michigan, I offer traditional headshots for use on book jackets or media appearances, or a more involved author branding session that includes lifestyle shots that can be used on social media and websites.

My book styling photography is a unique service I offer. Think of it as a custom photoshoot for your book! I design unique sets with details specific to your book, and create images that can be used in ads, on social media and websites, or printed on bookmarks, posters, or flyers. Custom book images set you apart from generic template and mock-up images often used in book marketing, giving viewers a more memorable impression of your book.

I also offer interior book design, marketing designs, and can create illustrations, figures, or maps for books.

Each of these areas helps an author tell their story visually.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
My website/graphic design services and book styling photography are not location-dependent, and I have worked with many authors around the country. For headshots and author branding photography sessions, I work primarily in the Grand Rapids area.
