Today we’d like to introduce you to Beverly Beal.
Hi Beverly , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my career with a strong belief in ownership—understanding that protecting what you build is just as important as building it. That mindset led me to intellectual property law, where I help entrepreneurs and brands secure their trademarks, contracts, and long-term business foundations. Over time, I realized my work was bigger than legal services—it was really about helping people create legacy, access, and opportunity.
That perspective pushed me into entrepreneurship beyond law. I founded GiftBiz to support entrepreneurs through community, resources, and meaningful connections, because I saw how often talented people lacked access, not ability. I also co-own Detroit Brew-ti-ful Coffee Shop with my mother, which has been such a meaningful extension of community and connection for us. In addition, I launched Fine Line Non-Alcoholic Spirits, a premium non-alcoholic spirits brand inspired by my own health journey and my desire to create a more elevated, wellness-focused way for people to gather and celebrate.
Today, everything I do sits at the intersection of ownership, wellness, and community. Whether through law, business, hospitality, or philanthropy, my goal is always the same: to build things that create impact, help people move differently, and leave something meaningful behind.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, and honestly, I think that’s what makes the journey real. One of my biggest personal challenges has been navigating health setbacks with Crohn’s disease. There were periods where I had to slow down, reassess, and learn how to build a life and businesses that supported my health instead of working against it. That experience is actually what helped inspire Fine Line Non-Alcoholic Spirits, because I wanted to create something that reflected wellness, intentional living, and a healthier way to socialize.
On the business side, there have been major lessons in patience and resilience. I purchased a building for my businesses with a big vision for what it could become, but like many real estate and development projects, it came with unexpected setbacks, delays, and the reality that growth rarely happens as quickly as planned. With GiftBiz, one of the biggest challenges has been funding—building community impact work without consistent sponsorships and donations can be difficult, especially when the vision is larger than the immediate resources.
What has helped me overcome all of it is staying focused on the bigger picture. I’ve learned how to pivot without quitting, how to be strategic instead of emotional, and how to trust that delays do not mean denial. Every setback forced me to build stronger systems, stronger partnerships, and honestly, a stronger version of myself. I’ve learned that entrepreneurship is less about avoiding challenges and more about learning how to move through them with intention.
We’ve been impressed with Multiple Businesses , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m a multi-hyphenate entrepreneur, intellectual property attorney, and community builder whose work sits at the intersection of ownership, wellness, and impact. My passion has always been helping people protect what they build while also creating businesses and spaces that foster connection, access, and long-term legacy.
Through my law firm, I help entrepreneurs, founders, and brands secure and grow their businesses through trademarks, contracts, and strategic legal guidance centered around ownership and protection. I also founded GiftBiz, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting entrepreneurs through mentorship, funding access, business showers, and community-driven events like the Social Capital Club, all designed to create stronger pathways for founders to succeed.
I am also the founder of Fine Line Non-Alcoholic Spirits, a premium non-alcoholic spirits brand created from my own health journey and my desire to offer a wellness-forward alternative to traditional drinking culture. Fine Line is about redefining how we gather, celebrate, and connect by making healthier choices feel elevated and luxurious. In addition, I co-own Detroit Brew-ti-ful Coffee Shop with my mother, a business rooted in community, culture, and creating meaningful everyday experiences.
Across all of my businesses, the common thread is intentional living, ownership, and building things that leave a lasting impact—whether through law, hospitality, wellness, or philanthropy.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My biggest advice for anyone just starting out is to focus on ownership early. So many people get excited about building the brand, launching the idea, or making the sale, but they overlook the foundation—protecting the name, understanding the contracts, creating systems, and making sure what they are building actually belongs to them. I always tell people that success is not just about starting, it is about building something sustainable.
I also wish I understood earlier that growth rarely looks how you imagine it. There will be delays, pivots, and seasons where things feel slower than they should. That does not mean you are failing. A lot of entrepreneurship is learning how to stay consistent when the results are not immediate. I had to learn that patience and discipline matter just as much as talent and vision.
Lastly, I would say do not try to build everything alone. Community, mentorship, and the right rooms matter. Sometimes the breakthrough is not another strategy—it is the right relationship, the right introduction, or the right person believing in your vision. Be willing to ask questions, seek guidance, and stay open to learning because building something meaningful is never a solo journey.
