Meet Lily Lewis of Your Social Nomad

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lily Lewis.

Hi Lily, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I was little, I dreamed of traveling the world and seeing the country. Once I graduated college in 2020 and began my career journey, I found it challenging to decide where to live permanently and which path I wanted to take. After jumping around the country in apartments and trying various jobs, I knew what I wanted to do. So, in the spring of 2022, I decided to sell most of my personal belongings and furniture and traded in my car for a truck, so I could move into a fifth-wheel RV full-time. I was moved in by summer and began the adjustment period of living in such a small space with my boyfriend and our liver-spotted Dalmatian. During that time, I started pursuing my passion for social media and website building and design. I also started interning with a social media agency that would help me build my skillset even more. With all of those adjustments and changes, I knew it wasn’t going to be a walk in the park, but off we went to begin traveling the country! We went to Florida, Colorado, Michigan, Kansas, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Tennessee. I learned so much, not only about life on the road and living the nomadic life but also about myself and the goals I wanted going forward. While on the road, I finally found my true love in blogging, content creation, website design, and social media management. I dove into building a blog and creating content through my social media account, The Good Flaw. I started my website design and social media management company, Your Social Nomad, at the beginning of 2023.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have definitely been struggles along the way. Living nomadically is a whole different ball game than anything else I have ever done. There was so much to learn and so much to adjust to at the beginning, and I know there will be even more challenges down the road I will have to face. Some of the biggest hurdles have been timing, planning, budgeting, and connecting to the internet. There is honestly so much that goes into traveling full-time that people don’t realize at first. The truck and RV need maintenance constantly and there are certain restrictions with some campgrounds and states that you must keep in mind when traveling across the country and you have to be sure you can connect to the outside world from wherever you end up staying.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Your Social Nomad?
In January of 2023, I created Your Social Nomad to help other small businesses succeed in their social media and website design goals. I work one-on-one with business owners or department heads to help bring their companies’ vision and brand to life through their online presence. Depending on their needs and goals, I edit their photos and videos, build their website, and create and post on all social platforms desired. Living on the road and starting this business has helped me pursue my love of the outdoors and create a work schedule that works for me. It also gives me the ability to work with small businesses all over the country.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I mostly use social media for networking, whether for work or my own social media accounts. There is such a large and supportive community of nomads and travelers that I have befriended through The Good Flaw account. Everyone can find a support system through mediums like Instagram and Facebook as long as they surround themselves with like-minded people. I am thankful to have a mentor I knew personally before starting this journey which supports and encourages me. I wouldn’t have the same motivation and success if it weren’t for my online community and personal friends back home.
