Daily Inspiration: Meet Vittoria Curl

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vittoria Curl.

Hi Vittoria, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I have been designing and creating jewelry since pre-school. I taught myself bead weaving and I was fortunate to get an introduction to silver jewelry making at Pioneer High School, I even sold hand-fabricated bead-centered jewelry works at the Kerrytown Artisan’s Market. After earning a BFA in Fine Art from Wittenberg University in OH, I moved to NYC to learn how to be a bench jeweler and fell even more in love with jewelry, design, and the business of diamonds & gemstones. While working in the Diamond District I launched Arte Vitta and after returning to Ann Arbor I started building that brand that it is today.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I absolutely adore everything about New York City, and it is the place that constantly calls me home. However, New York is not for the faint of heart, and the jewelry industry there is a tremendously difficult place to stand out, especially without strong financial backing. In between working a full-time job and managing a household, I was only able to produce fine pieces sporadically, and I had difficulty finding the right outlet for my demi-fine and fine jewelry designs. Ultimately, I left the city unwillingly. I needed to escape an abusive situation and my parents were both willing and able to help me return to Ann Arbor. In the time that I have been back, I was able to share the last few years of his life with my father and help my mother transition into widowhood. I was able to secure a position at a well-loved local jewelry store, Abracadabra, and the team there gave me an incredible opportunity to sell my designs there. I still work there as the General Manager while building my own brand identity, and I am forever grateful to my parents and my Abra family.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At heart, I am a three-dimensional visual artist and Arte Vitta is universally accessible luxury jewelry that is ethically and ecologically conscious. Inspired by nature’s sacred geometry to raise awareness, educate, and be a force for good in the world we share. Today, for tomorrow.

Since time immemorial, we have adorned ourselves with wearable art. Objects of beauty with the singular ability to bring happiness and comfort to the wearer, to connect to generations past, present, and future. To hold a hope, a dream, a memory.

Informed by the history of art, heirloom jewelry styles and techniques, and the wonders that surround us in the natural world, Arte Vitta’s designs are flights of fancy. Wearable art that brings life to joy and joy to life.

Inspired by the carefree style and decadent glamour of the Belle Epoque, Gilded Age, and Art Nouveau, and brought to life with the greatest attention to detail. Featuring luminous riches provided by Mother Earth, sourced with care and conscience, when you listen with your heart each design tells a story. A whisper of days gone by and promises of memories not yet made.

I design in six collections and I make a charitable contribution for the sale of each item, based on the collection that it is from. My best-known collection is the Beekeeper Collection; inspired by one of the world’s best-recognized pollinators and the sacred geometry of their hives which, in turn, supports The Bee Conservancy.

My personal favorite is the One More Spoon designs from the Bespoke Beauties collection, which I designed as a heartfelt, giftable collection of delicate necklaces to support the Women’s Center of Southeast Michigan. A group of absolutely amazing women who are providing access to mental health and other services to the women of our area. As the survivor of domestic violence, supporting other women in difficult situations is of paramount importance to me.

My other collections include Secret Garden, Natural Wonders, Nightlife & Oceania that are designed to support the North American Butterfly Association, the Environmental Defense Fund, Merlin Tuttle’s Bat Conservation, and the Ocean CleanUp.

What do you think about happiness?
Diamonds and gemstones bring me joy, but the moments when someone connects with my designs on an emotional level are the moments that make me “love my job”. When I am not elbow-deep in gold & gems, I can be found adventuring with my sassy Shih Tzu – Bichon Izzy or cheering on my beloved Yankees (sorry Tigers…)
