Daily Inspiration: Meet Veronica Grace

Today we’d like to introduce you to Veronica Grace.

Hi Veronica, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve known I am a creator for as long as I can remember. From drawing on friends, teachers getting used to portraits on my homework instead of answers to getting sick of my local high school’s art class not pushing me to grow further. I dropped out of school in 10th grade and let my heart free with clay and paint since.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Others my age would say growing up in today’s society is challenging. As I’ve grown out of my shell, faced my insecurity, overcome fear of judgment and demotivation due to it, my skill has grown too, along with my wisdom, which goes back into my artwork. Pain pushes us to learn, to grow, to heal. And I believe my art reflects that. While healing, it’s easier for my brain to picture how it feels. And when this happens, I become extremely passionate. Art is the tension between how we communicate things and how we see things.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I paint with acrylic on canvas, watercolor on paper. I use graphite and pastels to sketch. I use air dry clay, wood, aluminum, silicone, glass, and other materials to create sculptures. I’m 18 years old; I have no formal training. Today, my most proud piece is “The Art of Heart Break.” She stands 5’3, has received over 950,000 views on TikTok, and will be featured in Grand Rapids Art Prize 2022. I am entranced by human anatomy, and the existence of our emotions is so beautiful. My painting styles range contemporary or maybe figurative; I focus on realism, but my work can get abstract.

Alright, so before we go, can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Just reach out to me! I’m extremely open to working with other artists on projects or talking through ideas/techniques. And if you just want to support me, you can always check out my social media, leave a comment, or DM me! I love when I receive interpretations of my work and questions about it, negative or positive:)
