Today we’d like to introduce you to Veronica Bareman.
Hi Veronica, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always loved travel, writing, and photography, but after Covid hit, my poor little photography blog was gasping for air. In a last-ditch effort to revive it, I attended a travel blogging conference and quickly realized there was a whole world of women like me — over 50, full of life, and ready to explore — looking for someone who “got” them. Right about that time, I became a grandma for the first time, and since I was already known for lugging my camera everywhere and rocking a pink mohawk, a friend jokingly dubbed me the “Hip Grandma with a Camera.” And just like that, a brand (and a new adventure) was born. Turns out, there’s an audience out there that doesn’t mind a little sass and a lot of personality — and they’ve been coming along for the ride ever since.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s definitely been a fun road — but not exactly smooth. I’ve learned a lot about myself along the way: how I like to travel, what kinds of places light me up, and how to share that excitement in a way that connects with my audience.
On the business side, there has been a real learning curve when it comes to growing an audience and figuring out what people are actually looking for — it turns out it’s not just about travel. It’s about delivering it with my authentic Hip Grandma energy. People come for the destinations, but they stick around because they like the way I tell the story — mohawk and all.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a travel writer and storyteller, which essentially means I partner with destinations across the country, experience what makes their community special, and then share those stories with my audience. I’m known for bringing a pop of color (pink, of course), a whole lot of creative energy, and a solid knack for snapping a great photo — skills I love teaching others, whether they’re holding a big fancy camera or the camera in their pocket – their trusty cell phone. What really lights me up is encouraging women my age to get out there and travel, even if it’s solo, and find adventure right outside their own back door.
What sets me apart? There are tons of influencers speaking to millennials, but I bring that same high-energy vibe, but curated for women over 50 who still have plenty of road trips, wrong turns, and belly laughs left ahead of them. I’ve gotten pretty used to the gawking and double-takes thanks to my pink hair and colorful style, but honestly, I take it as a sign I’m doing something right. It’s all part of bringing a little extra boldness — and a lot of authenticity — wherever I go.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I love collaborating with destinations, brands, and fellow creatives who are passionate about travel, photography, and living life boldly after 50! Whether it’s through sponsored travel, brand partnerships, content creation, speaking engagements, or photography workshops, I’m always excited to team up. The best way to connect is to visit my website at www.HipGrandmaLife.com or shoot me a message through my social media channels — I’m always up for a good conversation and a new adventure!
