Daily Inspiration: Meet Trevor Stevenson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trevor Stevenson.

Trevor Stevenson

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born in Dearborn, Michigan, and shortly after, my family moved to Ypsilanti. I’ve lived here the majority of my life, with a few years being spent in other areas of the state as well as a year in Atlanta, GA. I’ve been friends with Tyler Kane since freshman year of high school when we first met each other. Since that time, we have partnered up to perform music in a few bands and always enjoyed playing tabletop games and card games. The thought occurred to make a game ourselves that would encompass aspects of many different games we had played over the years as well as some new concepts that would hopefully make new players feel welcome in a community that can feel a bit daunting to enter. Which brings us to Endless Pyre. We have been working on the game for a little under a year at this point and are excited by each step that brings us closer to the game being released!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think that a fun aspect of starting the game creation process has been the freedom to do whatever we want. This does create some interesting challenges though. We have tried to keep as much of the process in-house as possible, so far only using an artist and graphic designer for outside assistance. This means that between myself and Tyler we have had to learn a lot of new skills and strategies for this project. And because we are new to this industry, it feels like there is always more to learn. This can be tedious yet incredibly rewarding. Our current focus has shifted towards marketing and has been enlightening to say the least. Social media has truly brought a change in marketing about, and we are researching strategies to best ensure our target audience will be reached.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
One thing that I think will set our game apart is that we will be actively encouraging people to join in the creative process with us. I have been extremely interested in crafting miniature terrain for tabletop games for years; it is a fun, creative outlet that anyone can do. And the best part is the freedom to make and use what you like. So, while our game will be playable right away, we want to encourage others to make a cool game board or use character pieces and miniatures from other games or collections that they may already have.

What does success mean to you?
Success to me is when at the end of the day, I can be happy with what I have accomplished. I think we all ultimately want to be happy, and if I can contribute to someone else’s happiness, I consider that a great success.
