Daily Inspiration: Meet Tongela Anthony

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tongela Anthony.

Hi Tongela, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey began during one of the most uncertain times in recent history – the COVID-19 pandemic. While many businesses were shutting their doors, I was finding ways to stay resourceful, offering printing services to those in need, from flyers to labels and everything in between. Before that, I had navigated through several business ventures that didn’t quite pan out, but each one taught me something valuable.

Then came a simple yet life-changing piece of advice from my neighbor: “Why don’t you just get your notary certificate?” Those words set everything in motion. I pursued my notary certification and shortly after signed up with the National Notary Association to become a certified signing agent. That decision became the foundation of something much bigger than I had ever imagined.

From the very beginning, I knew I wanted to build something that stood for excellence and professionalism. The word *prestigious* came to mind immediately, and just like that, **Prestigious Mobile Notary LLC** was born. What started as a neighbor’s suggestion has grown into my very own dream – a company I built from the ground up, one signature at a time.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Smooth? Not even close. My road has been filled with detours, setbacks, and moments that truly tested my resilience. I had to make a serious change in my life, and that started with going back to school the following spring to complete my GED. But I didn’t stop there. I went on to earn my Associate’s Degree in Paralegal Technology, a Grant Writing Certificate, and even learned how to prepare taxes, all while making honors and fighting the early stages of cervical cancer, all through Wayne County Community College District. I had the honor of becoming the first in my family to graduate from college, and I’m now continuing that journey by pursuing my Bachelor’s Degree in Pre-Law.

But achieving all of that didn’t come without sacrifice. I was doing it all as a single mother raising two teenagers, managing the demands of school, entrepreneurship, and everyday life simultaneously. Add in the weight of multiple failed business ventures and being let go from more than one job, and there were plenty of reasons to quit. There were days when the progress felt invisible and the finish line felt impossibly far away.

But I kept going. This business had a slow start but it was the best start I had ever given myself, because for the first time, I gave it a real chance. Every struggle I’ve faced has only deepened my commitment to building something that truly lasts.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My best advice for finding a mentor or networking is to join Facebook groups and do in-depth research to fully understand the competitive and financial side of whatever career or business you are considering. Knowing what you are getting into before you dive in gives you a real advantage.

Never quit when a door closes. Keep knocking, because for every door that shuts, there are two more waiting to open.

What has worked for me is simple: determination. The determination to push forward, to refuse to give up, and to see failure not as the end but as a detour on the road to success. Every setback is just redirecting you toward a better path.

Stay persistent, stay hungry, and trust the process. The right connections and opportunities will come to those who don’t stop showing up.
