Daily Inspiration: Meet Teresa Alvarez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Teresa Alvarez.

Hi Teresa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I graduated from the University of Michigan with a Film & Journalism degree. I’ve always had a love for performing and visual arts. Growing up as a kid in Oakland, California; it was hard to not be around entertainment. Once I moved to Detroit, I began dance training, pageants, acting, and eventually fell in love with film and photography.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not the smoothest journey. You know the saying “if I knew then what I knew now, things would be different.” That’s so true! I was raised by a single mom but she made it her mission to make sure my time was occupied through performing arts, festivals, travel, and events. I like to say regardless of any financial setbacks or hiccups, my mom made it happen for me. Now, there are several opportunities I wish I would’ve taken and hadn’t let fear get the best of me but I learned from my mistakes. You cannot let fear stop you and don’t ever question if it’s the right thing to do. Now, as a parent myself – it’s my mission to do even better, through the good and bad.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a professional commercial actress, print model, automotive spokesmodel, pageant coach and small business owner. I proudly own TJ Alvarez Media, it’s my photography company. Most of my clients are pageant girls, models, and actors. It’s been an honor to become of the most requested photographers in Michigan for pageant contestants. My business was even nominated for Best in Detroit! Pageantry is dear to me and as the owner of Royal T Pageant Coaching, I’ve helped so many girls accomplish their goals and help them win or place top in their pageant. It doesn’t stop there, I proudly work side by side with my mom as a creative director and publicist for the Miss USAmazing Pageant. My mom is the owner, and it’s so fun to get to work with her. I think what sets me apart is all of the lives I lived honestly. I take my own experience and apply to everything I do and pass on my knowledge to help others that wish to work under me!

How do you think about luck?
Definitely pays to know people. It’s not always about what you know. I call luck a blessing from God. I find myself to always be in the right place at the right time and the right people will always come your way. Of course there’s negative and bad people in any business but you learn how to weed those people out. I’m blessed to know so many people in the entertainment industry, being friends with celebrities, and professional athletes; I definitely get linked to the right people. But overall, I work hard and there’s so much more to accomplish. For me, I fund my own business and do my own marketing. I wish I had more funds to invest and grow and that’s where I’m limited, but that’s okay! I got this!
