Daily Inspiration: Meet Taylor Elias

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Elias

Hi Taylor, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a 22 year old stay-at-home-mom that moved from Orange County, CA to Grand Rapids, MI with my husband and 4 month old in March, 2023.

I found out I was pregnant with my second baby (baby boy) soon after the move and while planning my baby shower, I didn’t want to pay a ton of money for the custom sugar cookies you see at so many parties, that I decided to try and make them myself. They were a huge hit at my shower and soon I had family members and friends asking if I could make 2-4 dozen sets for their tailgate parties, baby showers, birthdays, and other events.

I did a ton of research about Michigan’s cottage food laws and found that these cookies were a profitable, fun, and legitimate way for me to contribute to my family in a fun way while still allowing me to stay home with my kids!

My husband came up with the name Cremi Cookie because our daughter’s name is Remi (short for Remington) and our son’s name is going to be Colton so together he thought of Cremi! In just the past couple months Cremi Cookie has grown so much and I’ve been able to create the cutest cookie sets using my great great grandmother’s sugar cookie recipe and have become known for not just having cute designs but also really good tasting custom sugar cookies!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As a new mom that just moved across the country and still doesn’t know a ton of people it has been difficult navigating my first year in motherhood. I used to work full time in the medical field with people who struggled with substance abuse so learning this to stay home, be present for my daughter, and keeping her entertained while also running a small business at home has its challenges but it takes a village and my family here in Grand Rapids has been super supportive and helpful as I find the right balance for me!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I design, bake, and decorate custom sugar cookies with Royal icing using my great great grandmother’s sugar cookie recipe. Before this past year I had never decorated cookies before, but found after decorating a set for my own baby shower that I had a knack for it. I am super proud of not just how pretty my cookies turn out (there are many talented cookie decorators) but that they also taste super yummy! It brings me so much joy to hear feedback from customers and see pictures of my cookies while they celebrate special occasions in their lives!

What matters most to you? Why?
My family by far is the most important thing to me. My husband is my biggest cheerleader and supporter in every project (no matter how crazy) I take on. Cremi Cookie has been no exception. My daughter, Remi, and soon to be born son, Colton, pushed me to start this business to show them one day that even when life doesn’t go the exact way you planned, God has a even better plan — I am super proud of the life I’ve built with my husband and our two kiddos!
