Today we’d like to introduce you to Tammie Mathis.
Hi Tammie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started Tee’s Plentiful Salads with a passion for providing fresh, healthy, flavorful ,and affordable food options in my community. What began as a small idea has grown into a successful business serving customers throughout Flint and beyond. Over the past six years, we have expanded our menu, built a loyal customer base, and added catering services , which I already had for events of all sizes. Today, we continue to grow by focusing on quality, customer service, and creating opportunities to make healthy and good tasty food more accessible while positively impacting our local community.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road. Challenges such as funding, rising costs, staffing, and attracting consistent customers tested me along the way. However, perseverance, adaptability, and a commitment to quality and customer service/hospitality have helped me continue growing the business. Even now we I’m trying to get out of this box of being only in Michigan. It’s the hardest thing to do. Basically you need to know somebody I have a pocket full of money. But God has blessed me to come this far and I’m still thankful for that.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I can consider myself to be an artist because food is art. Anything that brings someone joy and happiness is art. I also love music. I love instruments. Food and music is definitely art and I’m very proud that I’m a part of both of those industries. I think what says me apart from other chefs is how much I put love into my ingredients. It’s peaceful for me. It’s not just a line of work. It’s my peace of mind.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was definitely and still is a family girl. Always having loving, warm, honest, fun and friendly family. That’s what we are. And that’s exactly what I install into my employees. I am typically a fun and happy easy-going person. Minimize the stress is what I’m all about. Just give me a kitchen to cook and some music and I’m good to go. 😁
