Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara Thomas
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was a licensed childcare provider for 12 years while our children were growing up. Then, while she was in high school, our daughter started modeling. It required a great deal of traveling for us both, so I stopped running my childcare business. We continued to travel throughout the US for about 3 years, until our daughter moved to Los Angeles to pursue her modeling career. At that point, I was free to explore my own pursuits. I have been an arts and crafts lover my entire life, which led me to take an 18 month certificate program in Interior Decorating and Design. When I finished the program, I started filling the walls of our house with upcycled wallpaper art. I have always adored wallpaper, but I couldn’t imagine covering a whole room with it, so the wall art idea was born. One thing led to another, and soon I found myself sharing my art and decorating projects on Instagram. Many of my designs have been shared by brands such as Pottery Barn, Kirkland’s, ZGallerie, Ballard Designs, Viridian Bay, Decorator’s Best, and more. I have had the opportunity to start an Amazon storefront, and to work as a paid collaborator with additional brands, which I am extremely grateful for.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest struggle I have had along the way, is keeping my social media content fresh and exciting. I am a fan of drama in design, and the traditional glam design style contains plenty of dramatic splashes such as wallpaper, jewel tones, leather, velvet and dark woods. These things are often high end items when you are talking about the cost of a project. I try to overcome this hurdle by sourcing look-alike items that are high quality but lower in price. I often find these things and recommend them in my Instagram posts. which link my followers to my Amazon storefront.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I think the thing that sets my work apart from others is the elegant and dramatic patterns, such as damask, found in the high end wallpaper art I create using second hand frames. Most of the rooms I design contain at least one upcycled piece of wallpaper art. It is truly rewarding to be able to take a discarded item, found at a second hand store, and make it a showstopper once again.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I love to collaborate with home decor & furniture brands by being gifted items to display and photograph in our home. Paid partnerships with online brands are always a treat, and my Instagram followers can support my business by clicking the Amazon link in my bio, and shopping the online storefront. Thank you to all my past and future followers and shoppers.
