Daily Inspiration: Meet Sierra Smith

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sierra Smith.

Hi Sierra, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Busta Dawgs started when we were searching for a blank trailer to build into our dream food business. During our search, we came across the trailer we own today and immediately knew it was the perfect fit. Around the same time, we brainstormed business names and randomly came up with “Busta Dawgs”—a name that stuck from day one.
After purchasing the trailer, we worked hard to obtain all the necessary licenses and permits, tested different products and suppliers, and created a menu that reflected the quality and experience we wanted to offer. We then launched our social media pages to introduce Busta Dawgs to the community and quickly gained our first opportunity when a local gas station invited us to serve our food.
As we met more customers and built relationships throughout Metro Detroit, new opportunities began to follow. One of our biggest goals was to serve in downtown Detroit, so we applied to Downtown Street Eats. After a year of persistence, we were accepted, and one of our first major downtown events was Detroit Tigers Opening Day—an unforgettable milestone for our small business.
Today, Busta Dawgs proudly serves customers throughout Detroit and Metro Detroit at local events, festivals, and community gatherings. What started as an idea and a trailer has grown into a business built on hard work, great food, and the support of our amazing customers.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, but every challenge has helped us grow stronger as a business. One of our biggest struggles in the beginning was learning everything that comes with owning and operating a food trailer, from obtaining licenses and permits to understanding health regulations. It was also a challenge building a customer base and getting our name recognized in a competitive industry.
As a seasonal business in Michigan, weather can also have an impact on sales and event attendance. While the journey has come with obstacles, each challenge has taught us valuable lessons and helped shape Busta Dawgs into the business it is today. Our determination and passion for serving our community has allowed us to continue to grow and reach new milestones.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Busta Dawgs is a Metro Detroit-based food trailer specializing in high-quality hot dogs, Polish sausages, fresh-squeezed lemonade, and a variety of toppings that allow customers to create their perfect meal. While we are known for serving great food, we believe our business is about more than what’s on the menu—it’s about creating a fun, welcoming experience and building connections within the communities we serve.
What sets us apart is our commitment to supporting local businesses whenever possible by using Michigan-made products and partnering with local suppliers. We take pride in offering fresh ingredients, friendly service, and a family-oriented atmosphere that keeps customers coming back. Whether we’re serving at a neighborhood event, festival, corporate gathering, or in downtown Detroit, we strive to make every customer interaction memorable.
One of the things we are most proud of is the growth of our brand. What started as an idea and a single food trailer has grown into a recognizable name throughout Detroit and Metro Detroit. Through hard work, community involvement, and a strong social media presence, we’ve built a loyal customer base and created a brand that people associate with quality food and an overall fun atmosphere.
We want readers to know that Busta Dawgs is more than a food trailer—it’s a small business built on passion, perseverance, and a love for bringing people together through great food. As we continue to grow, our goal remains the same: serve delicious food, support our local community, and create experiences that leave customers smiling.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is having our own lemonade stands when we were younger and now to this day we are still selling lemonade with our business Busta Dawgs.
