Daily Inspiration: Meet Serena Hoang

Today we’d like to introduce you to Serena Hoang.

Hi Serena, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, I’m Serena — a certified physician assistant with a master’s degree and the proud owner of Aesthetic Beauty By Serena, PA-C. My journey into aesthetic medicine began with a deep love for beauty, facial aesthetics, and a desire to help women — including myself, my family, and close friends — age gracefully and naturally.

My turning point came when I was 37. I looked in the mirror one morning and barely recognized my reflection. It felt like my face had changed overnight — sagging in ways I hadn’t expected. That experience led me down a path of research and discovery. I started reading everything I could find about cosmetic procedures, nutrition, skincare, and non-surgical treatments. But instead of clarity, I found conflicting and confusing information — especially on social media. Some practitioners praised fillers while others dismissed it. The same went for other treatments including botox, lasers, radiofrequency microneedling and chemical peels.

As a medical professional, I found it overwhelming — and I couldn’t help but think: If I’m confused, how can someone without a healthcare background make informed decisions about their face and skin? That realization drove me to dive deeper. I began enrolling in extensive aesthetic training programs across multiple companies and worked with experienced aesthetic practitioners to truly understand the field from the inside out.

Two years ago, I took a leap of faith and opened my own clinic — and it’s been one of the most fulfilling decisions I have made. My clients are happy, and I’m grateful to do what I love every single day. Being an entrepreneur gives me the flexibility to set my own schedule and spend real, quality time with each client. My appointments typically range from 45 minutes to two hours, depending on the treatment. I never rush. I take the time to listen, understand each client’s goals, and provide personalized, conservative recommendations that focus on safe, beautiful, and natural-looking results. I treat every client as if they were a close friend or family member.

Outside of work, I’m passionate about fashion, fitness, traveling, and food. I love exploring different cuisines and experiencing new cultures. I’m also a big fan of fitness — I work out and lift weights 3 to 4 times a week. It helps me stay strong, grounded, and energized.

This journey has been deeply personal and incredibly rewarding, and I’m honored to help others feel confident and beautiful in their own skin.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I first started exploring aesthetic medicine, the biggest struggle was information overload. There was so much conflicting advice out there — especially on social media. Even as a trained physician assistant, I found it difficult to navigate all the opinions on skincare treatments, injectables, lasers, and more. That really opened my eyes to how confusing it must be for everyday people trying to make the best choices for their skin and appearance. It motivated me to seek real, science-based education and hands-on training so I could eventually help guide others with clarity and confidence.

Starting a business came with its own set of challenges. I had to step into roles I wasn’t used to — from marketing and branding to managing finances and building a client base. I questioned myself a lot in the beginning and worried about whether I was making the right decisions. Like many entrepreneurs, there were moments of self-doubt and stress. But I pushed through by staying focused on why I started: to help people feel beautiful, empowered, and confident in the most natural and safe way possible.

Another big challenge was balancing the high standards I hold for patient care with the time and energy it takes to run a business. I give each client a generous amount of time because I believe in doing things right — not rushing results. It means longer hours for me sometimes, but I wouldn’t change it.

Despite the ups and downs, I’ve grown so much personally and professionally. The road hasn’t been easy, but it’s been 100% worth it. I’ve built a business I’m proud of, and most importantly, I’ve been able to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
One thing that sets aesthetic medicine apart from other specialties is how subjective it is. In most areas of traditional medicine, there’s a clear standard of care. For example, if someone has high blood pressure, there’s a well-defined path: lifestyle changes, dietary recommendations, medications if needed — and most practitioners follow the same protocols.

But in aesthetics, beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder. Every client has their own definition of what looks good, what feels natural, and what they’re hoping to achieve. My job is not just to understand facial anatomy and procedural safety — it’s to deeply understand my client’s unique aesthetic goals, guide them with honesty, and recommend the safest, most effective options that align with their vision.

That balance — between artistry and medical precision — is where aesthetic medicine lives. You’re still held to a high standard of care because these are real medical procedures with real risks. But there’s also an artistic element that requires intuition, creativity, and a deep respect for natural beauty.

What sets me apart is my unique combination of experience and passion. Before entering aesthetics, I spent years working in interventional radiology and vascular surgery, where I honed my technical, hands-on procedural skills and developed a high level of precision and attention to detail. Pairing that foundation with my love for beauty, facial harmony, and continued learning has allowed me to offer my clients a truly specialized and thoughtful approach.

I take pride in the time I dedicate to each client. My appointments are longer than average — typically between 45 minutes to two hours — because I believe that listening, educating, and tailoring each treatment plan are just as important as the procedure itself. I’m proud to say that many of my clients feel cared for, never rushed, and most importantly, heard.

Aesthetic medicine is where my medical training meets my artistic side. I love helping people feel more confident in their own skin — not by changing who they are, but by enhancing what makes them feel like the best version of themselves.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories is from when I was 8 years old, on the day of my First Communion at church. My mother had bought me a beautiful white A-line dress just for the occasion. That morning, she helped me get dressed and then, for the first time ever, applied a soft pink lipstick to my lips. I’ll never forget how special I felt in that moment.

Up until then, I would secretly try on her lipstick when no one was looking — but this time, it was different. She saw me, acknowledged me, and helped me feel beautiful in a way that stayed with me. I remember looking at myself in the mirror and feeling so proud, so pretty. That was the moment I realized how powerful beauty could be — not just in how you look, but in how it makes you feel.

Looking back, it’s no surprise I’ve always been a girly girl at heart. That day planted the seed for my love of beauty, femininity, and the confidence that comes from embracing who you are.
