Daily Inspiration: Meet Samuel Zeeryp

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samuel Zeeryp.

Hi Samuel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey started back in 2019 when I left Central Michigan University, where I was studying Sociology w/ a double minor in Youth & Drug and Alcohol Studies. I originally enrolled at Paul Mitchell the School Michigan after graduating from my placement school out in Iowa that I was sent to by a judge due to home issues when I got in a horrible car accident. I broke my left elbow in 7 different places. This was on the way to my graduation ceremony (from Clarinda academy – now shut down for abuse and neglect). After spending over 7 days in multiple hospitals in various parts of the country, I was left in a cast and told I would be 60% disabled in that arm and should probably pursue a different career path. Two hours after leaving the hospital, I got kicked out of my mother’s home (I was 18). Without going into crazy detail — I moved back out to Iowa and started nursing school, which led to Central Michigan University – which I eventually left after 5 years total to pursue my original career – Hair.

This, of course – had turbulence as well. Upon me selling my home in Mount Pleasant (I had a civil and criminal lawsuit due upon being sexually assulted when I was 16 years old, which made it able for me to buy my first home), I restarted – yet again – my life. I moved to Sterling Heights and started a new phase of life – cosmetology school. Everything was falling into place!

Then COVID-19

Three months into my education, the infamous shutdown happened. Being a bartender and a cosmetology student is already hard, let alone including a pandemic with two careers/Industries most affected…

Then, Bitchin’ Blowouts.

I started by making hair care kits for women and men who wanted healthy hair – but just didn’t know how to achieve it. I would schedule zoom consultations with individuals where I’d ask them their hair goals and wants, and needs and customize a kit that aided them in those areas. New shampoo/conditioner. Possibly styling products – leave in’s esc. for $100 – $200 you could have a customized hair care regimen with salon quality products with an instruction manual you could post in your bathroom. Needless to say, it took off!

I started offering cutting, coloring, and treatment services after that just with a kitchen chair in my townhome. I now have a fully operational salon suite with all the bells and whistles. It’s what possibly saved my career and potentially my life.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I also had a horrid roommate who almost got me evicted. My best friend – Lily (my dog), had to be put to rest. Many life changes were honestly insane.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a cosmetologist and small business owner / educational consultant. My brand name is Bitchin’ Blowouts. I’m a color / Blonding expert. I also assist in products and aspire to have my own line one day!

What sets me apart is I actually spend time with my clients and educate them on why and how to use their products and in what order to do so. I argue that giving my clients the tools and education to replicate the style I’m giving them benefits my business because my clients are my walking billboards vs. other stylists who keep their secrets, so clients will have to return to get the same look.
