Today we’d like to introduce you to Saige Mosingo.
Hi Saige, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I was 13 years old I was diagnosed with a very rare form of breast cancer, and at 13 years old I underwent a Mastectomy a month after my diagnosis. To this day doctors don’t know how or why I got a Malignant Phyllodes tumor of the breast. I have undergone many reconstructive surgeries since 2012, my last one being just two years ago in 2024. I have spent a lot of my life hating my body and my scars, never fully knowing how to embrace them or how to feel beautiful, especially growing up. One day it finally clicked that this is my reality and I need to learn how to love it, and that is exactly what I did. I started to look at cancer as a positive in my life and began raising money each year for cancer research, as well as volunteering and telling my story. I recently was able to share my story online and it happened to really gain some traction. I was able to share my story, and in return hear about other peoples battles with cancer and let them know they are not alone, and never will be.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all, every day is something new or a new emotion to process. I think cancer has a funny way of staying prevalent in your life, and it is up to you on how you handle it. It is okay to have bad days, I have my fair share. What matters most is how you move forward. Each morning you wake up is a new opportunity to do something good in your life.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I currently work in Digital Advertising, but am simultaneously chasing my dream of modeling & acting. It takes a lot of dedication, but I know first hand that life is short and tomorrow is not guaranteed, so I am going to do everything I can to chase my dreams. I auditioned for Victoria Secret’s open casting call, and that is where my story started gaining national attention! I really spoke with the message that scars are beautiful too, and they need more representation in the industry. I am trying to make a huge impact, inspiring women around the world to flaunt their scars and to know that they are worthy of feeling beautiful, and being represented in the fashion and entertainment industry.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Hmmm that is a good question! I actually volunteered in Haiti back in 2018 for a little over a week in college. I was asked by my Dean at the University Of Toledo to join the trip, and immediately said yes! It was an experience that truly changed my life, and my outlook on the world. I think it really helped ignite my philanthropic passion.
