Daily Inspiration: Meet Robert Bannon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Bannon

Hi Robert, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I never once thought I would be a Detroiter, but in just six months, I have learned why this city endures. It is full of strength, art, character, and drive. In many ways, I now know why I feel home here.

Hi! My name is Robert Bannon. I am a singer, actor, teacher, talk show host, and a new resident of the city of Detroit. When I say Detroit, I mean 7 Mile City Limits Detroit. I moved her after meeting, dating, and being engaged to a beautiful born Detroiter. Motor City Pride is where my Darius and I met. We made the long distance thing happen for almost two years before I took the plunge, bought a home together, and started to work here in the 313.

See, I am an artist and growing up one mile from NYC meant that all the art was around me 24-7. I host an online talk show for Broadway World, Broadway Podcast Network, and on YouTube called The Roundtable with Robert Bannon. Being close to NY let me slip into the city for Broadway, Concerts, and events. It gave me access to that world, but it was also non-stop. It was a calendar filled with red carpets, interviews, and work. There was no balance. I longed to keep working hard, but to find a life as well.

Many people when they heard I was moving would say, what about your show? What about singing? What about culture? Won’t Detroit be boring? Well the answer is definitely no. I still did 300+ interviews last year with everyone from Leslie Odom Jr. to Sherri Shepherd. (You should check them out!) I still have my music out and concert appearances. Listen to my albums wherever you stream your music, and I still act and tour in productions as well, but I found my balance, my partner, and a place that is my home.

What people who live in the East and West do not know is that art and culture thrives everywhere. In every community, people are working hard to speak through art. I found amazing organizations I have partnered with here like Broadway In Detroit, The DSO, The Detroit Opera, and concert venues like the Soundboard, The Fox, and more that keep us busy! I may be new to the city, but I am ready to see what it all has to offer.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The hardest part of my journey has been adjusting to new places. Where is my gas station, coffee shop, favorite restaurant, etc. ? I do not have the knowledge of the city but it has also been so fun to explore. I miss my family, but a quick 90 minute plane ride is all it takes to see them. I also miss my Broadway family, so when I swing back it is always fun to see what is on the boards in NYC!

I like to be busy, and I have been more than ever. I am a teacher by day, so balance is always an issue for me. Work hard. Play hard. Rest hard is not something I am good at, but I am learning. So we keep on learning, loving, and figuring it all out.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Check out my work! The Roundtable with Robert Bannon is an online talk show where artists talk about art. We are on the Broadway Podcast Network as a video or audio podcast everyday. We do talk about art all over the world, but have been focusing on Detroit more so take a peek!

We do a live Roundtable on Thursdays at 7pm ET on my YouTube channel, and I have an exclusive story on Broadway World every single Friday!

Also, my two full albums “Rewind” and “Unfinished Business” are streaming wherever you listen to music. My latest single “How Deep Is Your Love” is also out. Check out the music video for “I Think He Knew” on YouTube. That is my pride anthem that led me to Detroit.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
The biggest support goes to my fiance Darius. I could not do half of what I do without his love and support. He is a godsend. Darius is the best city tour guide/life partner you could hope for. My family, my parents, Sean, Christina, my niece Cora Rose are all the rock that hold me down. Thanks to my Detroit family like Renee, Jamel, Jhordan, Joyce, Teda, Deedra, Auntee Maureen, and Mrs. Lewis for opening their family to me. My NJ support system, all the friends, Roundtablers, and supporters- thank you! I have so much work to do, and I hope you join me on the Journey Detroit! Let’s do it!
