Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebekah Spencer.
Hi Rebekah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
If you would have asked me years ago if I planned to own multiple health stores, I would have said no way. That was never the goal.
My journey started with curiosity—and honestly, a bit of frustration with the traditional “take a pill and move on” approach to health. I wanted to understand how the body actually works and what truly helps it heal and thrive.
That curiosity turned into years of learning about nutrition, herbs, and natural medicine. The more I discovered, the more I felt this quiet pull to share it with others.
In 2007, I started an online business offering alternative healing products for people looking for more natural options to support their health. I didn’t have a big master plan—I simply wanted to help people find solutions that went beyond the traditional approach.
As more people began reaching out and asking questions, it became clear that many were looking for a place where they could walk in, talk with someone, and learn about natural health in person.
So in 2010, I opened a small retail space in Lapeer. It was tiny, simple, and full of heart. That little store became the beginning of what would eventually grow into the Rebekah’s Health & Nutrition stores we have today.
What happened next is something I’ll always be grateful for—the community showed up.
One store slowly grew into four. Along the way we developed our own line of herbal medicines and supplements, expanded our education programs, and built a team of people who truly want to help others live better.
But the part of the story that means the most to me isn’t the growth.
It’s the conversations in the aisles. The customers who come back and say, “I finally feel better.” The relationships built over years.
When I look back, I realize this journey was never just about building a business. It was about building a community centered around health, education, and hope.
And I still feel incredibly honored to be part of that every single day.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. In fact, some seasons were incredibly hard.
When I started my online business in 2007 and later opened my first small retail store in 2010, I didn’t come from a place of financial security. There were years when money was very tight. Before the internet business, I remember walking into the grocery store and carefully calculating what I could afford, sometimes even bringing a calculator with me just to make sure I stayed within the budget.
Years later, while running the first store, I made a promise to myself: I would do everything I could so that I would never have to shop for groceries like that again.
That fear has stayed with me to this day. Even during the good years, I sometimes carry the feeling that it could all disappear. I worked hard—sometimes out of passion, but sometimes out of pure determination not to go backwards.
Building a business from nothing requires a lot of faith. There were long days, sleepless nights, financial stress, and moments when I questioned whether I was strong enough to keep going.
But every time I thought about giving up, I would think about the people walking through our doors looking for help. The customers who trusted us with their health. The families searching for answers.
That responsibility kept me moving forward.
Over time, the challenges shaped me. They taught me resilience, discipline, and gratitude. They reminded me that success isn’t built overnight—it’s built day by day, decision by decision, with persistence and faith.
Looking back now, I can honestly say those difficult seasons became part of the foundation. They made me appreciate every customer, every team member, and every opportunity to serve our community.
Today I’m incredibly grateful—not just for the growth of the business, but for the journey that built it.
Because the truth is, the hard seasons didn’t break the dream… they strengthened it.
“There were years I brought a calculator to the grocery store just to make sure I could afford food. That experience taught me resilience—and it’s one of the reasons I work so hard today.”- Rebekah
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At my core, I help people understand their health and give them tools to support their bodies naturally.
I’m the owner of Rebekah’s Health & Nutrition, where our focus is on education, high-quality supplements, and helping people make informed decisions about their wellness. We specialize in natural health solutions—everything from herbal medicine and nutrition support to practitioner-grade supplements and homeopathic remedies.
One of the things we are known for is that when someone walks into our store, they don’t just see shelves of products. They find a team that listens, asks questions, and helps guide them toward options that make sense for their individual needs. Education is a big part of what we do. We want people to feel empowered and confident about their health choices.
I’m also very proud of our Rebekah’s Private Label line, which includes over 200 herbal medicines and supplement formulas. These products were created to check all the boxes—purity, potency, and price—because I believe high-quality wellness products should be accessible to more people.
Beyond our private label, we carry practitioner brands like Pure Encapsulations, Designs for Health, Metagenics, and Thorne, along with one of the largest selections of homeopathic remedies in the area.
But what truly sets us apart is our heart for the community. We host health fairs, educational classes, and community events to help people learn more about their health and connect with trusted practitioners.
What I’m most proud of, though, isn’t the number of stores or products. It’s the relationships that have been built over the years. Seeing customers come back and say they feel better, or that something we recommended helped them—that’s what makes all the hard work worth it.
At the end of the day, our mission is simple: help people live healthier, more vibrant lives and feel supported along the way.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that no one will ever run your business the way you do—and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
When you build something from the ground up, you pour your heart, your time, and your energy into it. You think about it constantly. You care about every decision, every customer experience, and every detail. That level of ownership is hard to duplicate.
Early on, I struggled with expecting others to see the business the same way I did. Over time I realized that leadership isn’t about finding people who think exactly like you—it’s about building a team who cares, grows, and brings their own strengths to the table.
At the same time, I’ve also learned that as the owner, it’s my responsibility to protect the vision and the culture of the company. The standards, the mission, and the care we show our customers all start at the top.
Running a business has taught me a lot about patience, resilience, and trusting the process. But above all, it’s taught me that when you lead with purpose and stay committed to your values, the right people and opportunities tend to follow.
And that’s been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey.
