Today we’d like to introduce you to Rani France.
Rani, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Honestly, I never planned to start a baking business. It all began right in my kitchen, just baking for fun — birthdays, holidays, or simply because I was craving something sweet. I’d spend hours trying out new recipes, decorating late at night, and sharing my treats with family and friends.
Little by little, people started asking, “Can you make one for me?” or “How much would you charge for that?” I remember how nervous I was to take my first paid order — I wanted everything to be perfect. But when I saw how happy it made someone, I knew I wanted to keep going and I realized that this was more than a passion — it was a calling.
It wasn’t always easy. There were a lot of trial and error moments — burnt batches, running out of ingredients at the worst times, and trying to balance home life with growing a business. But every mistake taught me something new.
Now, when I look back, I’m proud of how far I’ve come. My home-based baking business is something I’m truly proud of. I’ve built a community of loyal customers who trust me to make their celebrations sweeter. I’ve grown in confidence, creativity, and skill — and I still get that same spark of joy every time I pull something beautiful out of the oven!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not! Like most small business journeys, mine has had its fair share of bumps and lessons along the way. When I first started, I honestly didn’t realize how much went into running a home-based baking business beyond just baking.
There were times I felt overwhelmed trying to manage everything — taking orders, shopping for ingredients, handling pricing, and still finding time to actually bake. I’ve had late nights where I was covered in chocolate trying to fix cakepops that didn’t turn out the way I imagined. There were also slow weeks when I doubted myself and wondered if I was really cut out for this.
One of the hardest parts was learning my worth. I used to undercharge because I was afraid of losing customers and I just wanted people to love my baking. It took time to realize that my time, effort, and creativity were worth more than just the cost of ingredients.
The road definitely hasn’t been smooth, but every rough patch has shaped me into the baker I am today. I’ve learned to trust myself, to keep showing up even when it’s hard, and to remember why I started — because baking makes me happy, and it lets me make others happy too.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in hand-shaped and custom-designed cake pops, and honestly, that’s where my heart really shines. For me, cake pops aren’t just round treats on a stick — they’re tiny pieces of art. I love taking an idea, a theme, or even just a color palette and turning it into something that not only looks beautiful but tastes amazing too.
Every single pop I make is done by hand — shaped, dipped, and detailed with love and patience. I don’t rush the process, because I want each one to be special and personal. Whether it’s a character, an animal, or a custom design for a special event, I pour my creativity into the smallest details to make sure it’s exactly what my customers envision (and usually a little more).
What really sets me apart is the care that goes into every order. I treat each batch like it’s for someone I love — because most of the time, it is. I know these cake pops are for birthdays, baby showers, graduations, and moments people will remember forever. That’s what makes it worth every long night and sticky hand.
It’s not just about selling sweets — it’s about creating joy, one hand-shaped cake pop at a time.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
For me, success isn’t about being the biggest or having the most orders — it’s about doing what I love and making people happy with something I created with my own hands.
Success is when a customer sends me a message saying their child’s face lit up when they saw the cake pops. It’s when someone trusts me to be part of their special moments — birthdays, weddings, baby showers — and I know my work helped make those memories sweeter.
It’s also the quiet victories: finally nailing a new design after hours of trying, seeing my skills grow with each batch, or looking around my kitchen and realizing this is my dream coming to life.
To me, success isn’t about perfection — it’s about progress, passion, and purpose. It’s about staying true to what makes me happy and proud, even when the road gets hard. If I can keep creating, keep learning, and keep spreading a little joy through my cake pops, that’s success in my eyes.
