Today we’d like to introduce you to Penney Brinks.
Hi Penney, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Christmas Day, 1962, I opened the ONE gift I truly wanted! A chalkboard! Dad placed it on my bedroom wall, and I was able to “teach” to my stuffed animals. My blueprint was to “learn and teach” and I stinkin love it! It is my purpose and passion!
Over the span of 50 years, I have taught Lamaze, Jazzercise, Kids Get Fit and The Know More Diet. I facilitated numerous seminars during the sixteen years of teaching Jazzercise. It’s where my journey truly began.
In 2007, I became a LifeSuccess Consultant, being trained by Bob Proctor and Paul Martinelli. Once certified, I created and facilitated numerous seminars and training. I have spoken for Costco, The American Dental Association, Women’s Wellness Groups, the Chamber of Commerce, along with the high school and Career Tech school in our community.
I explain how the power of the mind and brain impact our life. How our thoughts are more than just sentences in our head, they create our results! I introduce and dissect the different parts of the brain/mind, and how they function. The conscious and subconscious. Our results are a direct reflection of how we THINK, not what has happened to us. The world will always be worlding. We have to learn how to get along with a world that is not so perfect! We are programmed to blame, complain and be the victim. Unfortunately, our brain is set up to function with a negativity bias. I teach “why that is” in my podcasts and programs/seminars.
Personal growth, awareness and taking responsibility for our results is a deep dive and one that I will study and pursue until I am called to my final resting place.
Your thoughts have power! Lots of it! I teach people how to FLIP THE SWITCH! To recognize that life will always be 1/3 “good to great”, 1/3 “it’s ok”, and 1/3 “down right challenging”, I provide tools to manage, maneuver and make the best of a situation. Hence, my website: MINDSET MANEUVERS.com.
Zig Ziglar, Dr Wayne Dyer, Bob Proctor, Jack Canfield, Brooke Costello, Mel Robbins , Angela Duckworth and numerous others have helped me understand how our lives are shaped by our mind more than by our circumstance. How our ATTITUDE plays a huge role in the amount of joy we experience, the happiness we hold inside and the tremendous opportunities available in this vast world we live in. We hold ourselves back with thoughts of fear. We measure ourselves by others accomplishments, in other words, we are constantly comparing our results with others. Dangerous and self defeating! We ask for others opinions or approval, versus trusting in our own capabilities.
Working on oneself is a tough category because what you have used as the shields of blaming, complaining and playing the victim have to be removed. You have to look at yourself and take responsibility for where you are. The good, the not so good and the downright ugly (at times).
On the other hand, taking control of your life, understanding how you can change (slowly) is empowering and exciting! I invite you to check out my website for more information on what I teach. www.mindsetmaneuvers.com
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Is there such a thing as a smooth road when it comes to accomplishing your dreams, goals or mission? If it was, everyone would be basking in the sunlight of success. Understanding there will be roadblocks, pitfalls, disappointments and frustration is an important part of the journey.
The biggest struggle is to stay focused, persistent and disciplined. To live with the Attitude of Gratitude on a daily basis. When you plant a seed in the ground, it does not produce the flower or the vegetable or the tree overnight. It takes time! You have to tend to it daily, pull the weeds (negative thoughts) and remind yourself that you would not get the idea if you could not do it!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I help others recognize, realize and relish in their own unique gift(s)! I am a speaker, trainer and coach, known for my optimistic outlook on life!
My greatest accomplishments are my children! I’ve watched them grow, overcome obstacles and persevere. They are a great example of what is possible! My son started a business when he was 20, he is now 48 and has developed a multi million dollar company which employs over 300 people. My daughter is a self made woman! Has overcome personal challenges to a degree that leave me in awe! They both have coaches or counselors that have helped them in their journey.
My independence, willingness to learn, and ability to appreciate others point of view are my strengths. It could be considered an example of what sets me apart. I do not lead with my ego, I lead with intention, humility, gratitude and love of others.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
There are many! Having a family that was loving and supportive was a huge blessing.
Memories fall in categories; ones that teach and ones that warm the heart.
What I appreciate about my childhood is the freedom, the belief that my parents had in me, and the friends that enriched my life.
