Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Sheehan.
Hi Mike, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2023, Michelle and I decided to go NHRA/IHRA Stock Eliminator Drag Racing. We went to Denver, Colorado – 2412 miles in 3 days- and brought back our 1988 Mustang GT drag car. Once home with it, we thought we needed to do more than just race and Milk Money Racing was created. I have been in the Agriculture/Dairy Industry for 33 years and it has been good to me, so we decided to give back as much as we could.
We made it our mission to promote the importance of Dairy and Agriculture in everyone’s lives! We all need to eat, and we all want a safe, high quality food supply.
Now we race as often as we can, but we also use the car as a tool to promote Dairy and Agriculture. We attend a variety of promotional events to spread the good word about our industry. We do our best to get accurate information out there to the public, and have fun with kids and adults alike.
We are extremely fortunate that our industry is so supportive. We currently have 11 dairy farms and 6 ag businesses that are partners with us on our mission. We also have many people behind the scenes that help us tremendously.
When we formed Milk Money Racing, we had no idea it would grow as much and as fast as it has. We went from a couple of ideas about how best to get our message out there to being on national TV.
Please check our web site – milkmoneyracing.com – it has our mission statement and a better explanation of who we are and how we started.
We are extremely grateful for all the support from our partners, the behind-the-scenes people, and everyone who follows along with us. It means the world to us!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was a challenge in the beginning about how we were going to effectively accomplish our mission of promoting the importance of Dairy and Agriculture in everyone’s lives. We experimented and tried lots of things, quickly learned some were effective, and some weren’t. And since it’s just Michelle and me, we had to learn the best, most efficient use of our resources and time!
It has been a ton of fun. It is an absolute blast meeting new people, and gaining new experience. We have had tremendous success on the promotional side of our adventure. We have had moderate success on the racing side – my driving skills need to improve!
People love the car, the cow stuff, and they like getting real, accurate information about where their food comes from.
We have struggled a bit with resources, broken parts, and time – but who doesn’t struggle with time?
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have been in the Agriculture/Dairy business for 33 years. Spent the first 14 as a company rep, the last 19 as a sales rep for McConnell Farm Supply in Rosebush, MI.
We specialize in dairy and livestock equipment – if it’s in front of a cow or behind a cow, I have something to do with it!
I have done my very best over the years to create lasting relationships with my customers. I believe that’s the key to being successful in any business. In our business, my customers still expect phone calls and face to face transactions. I still do 99% of my business with a hand shake, and for that, I feel very fortunate.
What’s next?
Milk Money Racing will continue to grow – both with our promotional outreach program, and with some additional racing plans.
We will continue with a variety of promotional events, and we are hoping for more tools to use at those events. We have some merchandise plans in the works. We also have some Milk Money Racing ice cream in the works. Hopefully, things will come together this winter for some other plans, we have to be somewhat patient for them.
We are working on another car to add to the racing side – it’s going to be really cool, so it will help us with both sides of our mission.
We just have to find the resources and the time to carry out all these cool plans. We are grateful beyond words for our partners, and we always have room for new partners who want to hop on board and share our passion for promoting Dairy and Agriculture!
