Daily Inspiration: Meet Meg Rosenberg

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meg Rosenberg.

Hi Meg, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have always loved creating. Whether it be drawing, watercolors, acrylic pants, clay… I love it all! About two years ago, I started to learn more about polymer clay and all the creative things that can be done with it. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit and when I was learning about this type of clay and that I can create jewelry with it… I thought why not! Let’s give this a try! Then Sand & Soul Clay was born. Sand comes from my deep love and appreciation for all the gorgeous beaches and lakes our great state offers. Soul comes from my deep faith and love for Jesus. I’m so thankful for this creative outlet that I have been blessed with being able to share with others. Being a wife and mom of two always comes first… and this sweet little business of mine is icing on the cake.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I feel like nothing ever truly comes smoothly haha! I tend to have an “all or nothing mentality, which can be detrimental when starting your own business! As I was exploring ideas of my own business, I first wanted to do ceramics. Creating pottery pieces, among other things. I took a local pottery class 2 years ago and fell in love! While also quickly learning how challenging it truly is, gaining an even deeper appreciation for the art. It was humbling and such a great experience. Hours later of research and seeing if we can turn our shed into a pottery studio… it just wasn’t something that could work at the time. I felt discouraged, and that “all or nothing” mentality shut me down. I worked through all the “feels,” and that’s when I started to learn more about polymer clay. Dug my heels in and said, “I can do this,” so I did. My husband is such a great support and cheers me on in every way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Gosh. I love all the things, ha! But specifically, right now with Sand & Soul Clay, I create handmade polymer clay earrings, what I’m currently most known for making. Anything from small studs to statement earrings. I love so many different looks. Honestly, whenever I go to create something… I just let the creativity flow. “Planning” out things to create can at times overwhelm by overly active creative brain! So, I find I work better when I simply walk down to my workshop with a yummy hot cup of something to drink, turn on an audiobook, and just create whatever feels right. I hope to soon offer handmade necklaces, bracelets, and other small items for the home. I’d also love to start selling paintings… but one step at a time!

Overall, what I’m most proud of is for just doing this. Two years ago, I left a full-time job that I truly loved and loved the people I worked with to stay home and care for both our children and, specifically care for our daughter with special needs. I’m so incredibly thankful for the opportunity to stay home and put my kids first while also being able to have this small business of mine. It hasn’t always been easy… but I’m beyond blessed and thankful for where I am now and where my business is.

What sets me apart from others is simply that I’m ME. I have my own ideas of what “art” looks like, my own way of connecting with people and being able to share pieces of art that I love with those who also love it.

What makes you happy?
My husband, my amazing children, our families, our church family, our friends, the gift of being able to create, books, gardening, being active, living where we live, my deep faith. I could go on!

Finding joy and peace despite our circumstances is so life-giving. And then being able to do life with the people we love, do things that we’re excited about, and then being able to share that with others?! What a gift that is.
